Question about Vitamix Super 5000 Work Top Blender

Vita-Mix 5000 blender shuts off under heavy blending loads.

The blender can't blend really thick liquids, like it used to, without the motor over-heating and turning off. I believe the motor is over-heating, because the blender can be turned back on after a few minutes. Specifically, the problem occurred while blending soaked flax seeds.

Compared to the ordinary blender or the imitators of VitaMix, you have/had a wonderful unit. Others would die immediately if users tried to do with them what is done daily in a vitamix. We have had ours for already going on 18 years or so, the 5000 and it still works great. We just upgraded though and have the 750. Now we have 2.

Customer service is and has always been a great help.

My opinion is the blade assembly in the container, is the problem. The bearings and/or seal is locking up and in turn the motor of the base has to work harder. You will need a special wrench to get off the blade and replace the assembly. I would start there.

Same problem with a Vitamix 5200 from Costco. I'm very mechanically inclined. This happened from day one after 15 minutes of use. About the same consistency of Jamba Juice. Its made in America, that's part of the problem anymore. Toyota or Yamaha should start making these. Total BS

I will also check the blade bearings,if the blades does not turn easily and the motor brushes, they get worn with time and theybare esay to check and replace.
I wish you good luck and hope you saty away from buying the motor, thats a
very expensive ordeal.

First check the blades on the container thay should turn easy by hand if not thats your problem , you will need blades . blades turn easy ? you will need to replace the motor . the temp /overload has changed and is tripping to easy . this is common with people that use there vitamix for tough chores a lot . a lesser blender would just burn up a motor in a puff of smoke .a vitamix dies this way . in the end its the same you will need a motor

When i turn it onto high speed it willl fuse istanlty. (Even with somthing easy to blend like a smoothie) .Any ideas what could be wrong?

I would suspect a motor fault, most likely an insulation problem in the armature or the fields. Contact Vitamix for your local authorised service agent. Unless it has been assembled incorrectly it should not be one of the internal wires as they are supposed to be secured and correctly routed during assembly.

The buttons on my vita-mix vm0115e wont work. We have been loosing one button at a time. Was going to see if there was a loose cable or something, but I can figure out how to get the base off.

WE do not have your model here in NZ but this is how you get into our models
Remove square rubber base beaker locates onto. Remove motor driving clutch. Remove 4 screws under rubber pad you have just taken off.

Contact Vitamix, find a service agent through them and have it looked at. You are only going to be able to get your motor (if you need one) through someone associated with Vitamix anyway.

Have had my Vita-mix 5000 for several years with no problems. Now, it leaks oily, black liquid around the base, and jerks erratically when the blender is set on the lowest setting (#1 of 10)/variable.

Is it getting hot when you operate it? If you run a mixer for a long
time, the motor will get very warm. On the older units, when the
motor overheats, the various parts of the motor and its container
may start to melt. Mixer motors are not designed to last forever and
a replacement motor may be available from the manufacturer.
Another way is to purchase another similar mixer as you can on
eBay and swap parts.

My vita-mix just stopped working, there is slight burned smell, I was blending walnut pieces with dates paste. Any suggestions?

If the burning smells like plastic then the walnut shells most likely put too much strain on the motor and burned it out. If the burning does not smell like plastic then you most likely have walnut shell grit jamming your motor.

This can be cleaned out by first ENSURING IT IS UNPLUGGED FROM THE WALL.

  • First remove the canister (if possible)
  • The remove the blade (if possible) check for a build up of grit between the blade and the shaft connecting it to the motor.
  • Check the channel the shaft passes through from the motor for large chunks of walnut shells or date paste.
  • Clean the canister thoroughly with warm water and leave it to soak overnight in a water/soap mixture.
If this has not resolved the issue then try to claim it under warranty or source replacement parts online.

I have this model and a vita prep 3. Both turn off when tasked with heavy blending. Is there anyway to increase their blending torque capacity? They used to be much better. They are not old machines.

The motors even if they not old blenders if they have work with too much load for along time then they have been overheated and thus they will trip overheat safety more sensitive. So now actualy you have less blending torque as you have describe. So now their is much posibilty if you continue to work it the same way you will finally burn the motor rotor so the damage will be grait.
So now not only you can not get more torque but you should try to avoid very heavy use in order to have them work for a longer time.
When you use with a lot of ice cubes try to cover them with a lot of liquids and always use the pulse mode to start ant the continues rotation.
Good luck
