Cassette tray will not eject

My brother recently gave me his old canon zr10 for a birthday present but without a battery charger or battery. So once I was able to turn the camera on I was quite happy. Unfortunately ever since the first time I turned it on there has been a "Eject Tape" message. And every time I try to eject my tape it will act like it's going to eject but only come up partially. I read somewhere on this site that messing with the battery while pressing eject helps. This allowed for the tray to eject about halfway but still not far enough to allow me to get the tape out. Anything you can do to help me will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

I experienced the same problem with my 3 yr old ZR10, i.e. it would not eject the cassette. When it failed to eject there was a warning "replace battery pack." I removed the battery pack and plugged the camera into the external power used for charging and the cassette ejection now works.

The problem may well be attributable some deficiency in the battery pack which occurs with use.

SOURCE: Tape won't come out!

I had the exact same problem, and just by dumb luck, I managed to get the tape compartment to pop open after trying hundreds of things. Maybe this will work for you too...who knows??? What I did was to first remove the battery and AC power to "reset" the camera (I guess). I then put the battery back in place and WHILE HOLDING THE CAMERA IN THE UPRIGHT (AS IF USING THE CAMERA FOR VIDEO) POSITION, I pushed the "Open/Eject" latch. VIOLA!!! Like I said, it may be dumb luck, but I haven't had the problem again. It may be that gravity helped to take the stress off the ejecting mechanism...dunno???? BTW, when I was having the problem, the mechanism would "click" 3 or 4 times while trying to move the tape out. Good luck!!! I hope this helps someone!

SOURCE: Message reads eject. won't eject

Ihatecanon, Tried the steps you provided above with no luck. Then decided to gently smack the camera twice on the right-top side of the tape compartment. It freaking worked the first time. Got this idea by watching Eric Cartman on South Park... No, really. I read about this in another forum. It's a quick $150 back in your pocket. Just think. You sent the camera to their tech guys and paid them 150 to SMACK-IT :)

I have been having the similar problem. Try switching the power to off and then eject the tape in the off position. My finally ejected.

SOURCE: Cassette won't eject!

I have had this problem too. I got it to open by pressing my hand against the tape mechanism then slightly closing the lid and re-opening it. This doesn't always work the first time.Once it is open run a tape head cleaner and it should fix it for a while.

Handy cam hi8 dcr

Try removing the battery and charging it. Then put the battery back on the camera. This will reset the cassette system. The cassette should open or close depending upon what status it is in. Once you get the camera to eject fully, clean your heads with a dry head cleaner cassette for Hi8 video. If your camera is still eating tape, could be a broken pin or damaged heads.

Usually a chime happens when you open the plastic cover just before it opens. If you plug it into the electrical outlet does it eject that way?

Canon md101 manula eject

yup there is sort of... you take a jewelers flathead screwdriver and push the spring back on the lens side of the cassette holder. and then on the other side there is a little hook that latches over a bump that locks it in place, you push that down and it will unlock... from there you might have to take the extremely small screw out at the top and remove the whole cassette tray...

Cassate tape will not eject from my Canon ZR85 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

I found a temporary solution for this problem. When the tray with the cassette tape comes out remove the battery so that the tray will not go inside again. Now on top of the tray it will be written as "PRESS" just adjucent to it you can see a spring connected to the tray just press the string down wards and the tray opens and you can replace the battery. Hope this can help.

Cassette stuck

I have the same problem eject cassette stuck on my brothers camera he gave it to me to bring home to try and fix for him how-ever not before his son tried to force it and damaged some of the casing that holds the cassette. I straighten it all out and then found that a very small spring at the back of the camera had come off which was stopping it from ejecting. Once I lifted this spring and hooked it back on that it now ejects no worries at all..

Tape deck won't eject tape

The tape might be wrapped around the head or the capstan. The mechanism is delicate so you risk more damage by trying yourself - check with some of the repair shops on the Fixya home page for prices to remove the tape.

Cassete willl not eject

Solutions * The most frequent cause of this type situation is not having a power source attached, or a depleted battery pack. * Once the power source is available, some models require manually unlatching and opening a cover. * When the cover is fully open, the cassette will eject automatically after a few seconds. * If the tape still will not eject, seek assistance from a Service Facility because you need a special tool to remove the tape without causing further damage.

Cassette Jam

The most frequent cause of this type situation is not having a power source attached, or a depleted battery pack. Once the power source is available, some models require manually unlatching and opening the cassette compartment cover. When the cover is fully open, the videocassette will eject automatically. Please try the following procedures. 1. Attach the power source to the camcorder correctly or use a fully-charged battery pack. 2. Fully-open the cassette compartment cover until it stops while sliding and holding the OPEN/EJECT switch. The videocassette will eject automatically after a few seconds.
