Will formatting my memory card erase all my data on it?

This is why we make a backup file!
There is a possibility that only the file allocation directory has been erased. Leaving the data intact. (computers erase the index & leave the book) Depends on the Phone manufacturers type of erase.
You will have to have an adapter that allows the memory card to plug in to the USB port on a computer. Then there are utility programs available to copy or backup or recover the files.
You would probably be better off dropping into a computer shop with good technicians that have these recovery utilities.
You won't forget to do a backup every month from now on Eh!

During downloading if there is no message prompt(selection of storage memory location) there is other way.At least you can do this, move all the files/ data which is stored in phone to memory card.Good luck.Thanks for visiting fixya

Deleting or formatting won't make the data in memory card erased permanently.

Those deleted data is still stored on the memory card , it's just invisible or inaccessible. So as long as those data are not overwritten by new data, it's highly possible to recover them. And the MOST Effective way is to rely on format recovery program.

If you lose or forget the password for your phone's memory card, there is no way to recover the password or access the data, even by taking your phone to a Nokia Care Point.

However, you may still be able to use the memory card if you can successfully format it. Formatting the card will not work in every case.

Formatting will erase all the data on the card.

To format your memory card:

1) Select Menu>Memory. Your phone show the details of the memory card/

2) Select Options>Format memory card.

That usually means that you need to format the card in the camera. This will erase the card so download any pics first using a card reader if necessary.

dear to format a memory card just connect it with PC ,keep the cell in data storage mode & right lick on the memory card there will be a option for format ,format it,it is similar as we format our drives

You can format in the camera. usually you go to the menu on your camera and select tools or utilities, select format.

Your memory card will be erased.

I will help u in this problem.
Ur NOkia N70 is crashed due to software error or virus in ur mobile phone. I recommend u to use antivirus software. It wont erase any data.
Another alternate is to format ur phone memory and memory card. It also dont erase the phone softwares and apps it came with. It only erases additional datas added later.
To format ur phone memory :

1) Make sure ur charge is 75 %. Turn off ur phone.
2) press and hold three buttons ( green dial button + * + 3 key ) and turn on the phone.
3) Hold those buttons until a formatting screen appears.
4) It automatically completes and ur phone asks for restart.
5) Ur phone memory is completely formatted.
To format MMC (memory card):
- Make sure ur charge is 75 % or more.
- Open menu->extras->memory card->format.
- Takes ( 15-20 ) minutes.
- Ur MMC is formatted now.
