On some models, you can unplug the computer, remove the battery and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to clear CMOS.

How to reset forgotten bios password on a dell precision 220

If you know the current password just boot the machine and look for what key to press to get into the Bios or Setup. There you can change it if you know the current password.

If you don't know the password, then you will need to remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard and let it sit for a couple of hours. This will cause the computer to clear memory of everything. Then replace the CMOS battery and start the machine. Unfortunately you might have to disassemble the laptop to get to the CMOS battery.

Someone gave me a macbook, model A1278 but when I boot up its asking me for a user/pw for the File Vault. I have no idea what it is and the person who gave it to me has since passed away. I don't have the...

A friend told me you can take out the cmos battery and short the terminals for 30 seconds, and that will clear the passwords. Never had to try it, but it sounds right, since it might clear the memory. If that fails, only other thing I can think of is to have the bios reflashed. You would have to have a computer shop do that, to the best of my understanding. Good luck.

How to reset "A205-S5831" CMOS Password

This information is kept confidential by Toshiba. The only method I am aware of is by calling toshiba tech support. I Know they will ask for your information as well as proof of purchase. I "think" they may even require the machine to be sent to them.
Unfortunately this is the only method I am aware of to clear the bios/cmos password on a toshiba.
Good luck!

Acer aspire 5050 asking for a password upon start up

If it is asking for a password upon startup then someone put a password on your CMOS. Unfortunately, unless you can find out what the password is, then the only way to clear it is to remove the battery in your motherboard. The battery is what keeps the information in CMOS when the computer is turned off.

Frogot password

It would help if you will clear the BIOS or the CMOS of the laptop. It can be cleared by pulling out the cmos battery of the laptop for a long period of time or by locating the jumper/dipswitch on the motherboard that would clear the BIOS. You may go to these links on ways on how to clear an unknown BIOS password.
