I'm sorry, I posted in the toshiba section, my tv is actually a mitsubishi but my problem is a convergence problem. Like I said I ordered the replacement IC and did the repair and now my problem looks a little differenct than before but I still can't adjust the covnergence. I was thinking maybe a resister but don't know how to check on that. I emailed tvrepairkits so if I don't get a do it yourself recomendation, I'll see what they say.

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move tBowing at top and bottom, can't adjust convergence - 2c07611.pngdirections your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Tv turns on. There is a picture but it looks like your looking through a fish bowl. Bowes into the middle from both sides. It also looks 3D. Any Clue??

This is usually a convergence problem, although the bowing normally is from the top and bottom rather than from the sides. There may also be an issue with the pioncushion circuit that causes the bowing. Try the automatic convergence adjustment first. If that fails to resolve the problem, then resoldering the convergence ICs would be next followed by replacing the ICs should the resoldering fail.

If you wish to attempt the repair, please update this and confirm the model number to be VS-60607 and I'll provide additional details.

Thanks,
Dan

The pic is off there is bowing at the top and

Picture becoming distorted at the top/bottom of the screen is due to the convergence circuit going bad, and is a common issue with big screen projection TVs.

The convergence circuits will need to be repaired, which will generally require some soldering and ordering new parts for ~$75. If you want to get a TV technician to repair it then you will probably be looking in the region of about $300 for a repair.

Here is a link to repair guide for a Mitsubishi TV. Obviously a different model, but the convergence circuits are generally the same for most makes/models - this will give you an idea of the work involved to fix it: http://www.techlore.com/article/22530/DIY-Repair-Replacing-Convergence-IC-s-on-a-Mitsubshi-TV-Set/

RCA mm52100

Ok thanks for the info Now this is an indication of convergence issues(3d effect) the bowing issue idicates a complete loss of convergence power. which possible could be the convergence ic or the actual power feeding them. im feeling like it might be the ic overheating these get very hot. now the bad news. this is a set that is very difficult to work on. Rca has compiled a long list of problems with this set. getting to the chips is a chore. i cannot recommend repairing this set. I know no one likes to hear this.

there are several rca issued suggestions. the top one isChange C19542 on the Digital Convergence PCB from a 10uF 63WVDC capacitor (214698) to a
470uF, 25WVDC capacitor part number 214746.
Also change the 24V zener diode CR19720 (226446) on the Convergence Power Supply board to a
30V 500 milliwatt zener diode, part number 231211 this
but as i said this may or may not be the best solution

SPEED BUMP OR BOWING

Your convergence chips and convergence resistors are going bad. When they fail the screen colors will look distorted/3d looking. Another symptom is one or more colors can't be converged using the convergence menu. You can purchase the parts over the internet. Just make sure you get Sanyo brand convergence chips and the correct flame proof resistors. You can also check the site www.TvRepairKits.com for a kits.  Just make sure you replace both of the convergence chips and all of the convergence resistors.
