OK! Have you tried this Seagate external hard disk on other computers? Is it also detected as RAW file system there? Does the PC Windows ask you to format this hard disk before any access there? If so, your external drive may not be seriously damaged or corrupted. Before you really format this drive as you are asked, merely scan this RAW drive with external hard disk RAW file system error recovery software.

Hope these words can help you out.
Your data is already gone. The drive is raw. No partition no format.

SOURCE: how to format IDE hard drive?
This drive is an IDE drive. The jumpers can be set on it to make it a slave.
Once set as a slave, you can identify the drive letter given to this drive and format it either at a command prompt: C:> format [drive:] /s (to make it bootable) or no /s to just format it.- OR within Windows: right click on the drive letter and select format.
