After a two-week interruption of power to the PC, I attempted a startup with an optic mouse (not the Dell ball type) and I am having the same problem - the keyboard and mouse work for a few seconds during startup and then they quit. Non of the seven USB ports seem to work at all. I have tried the keyboard and the original mouse with no luck! After a two-week interruption of power to the PC, I attempted a startup with an optic mouse (not the Dell ball type) and I am having the same problem - the keyboard and mouse work for a few seconds during startup and then they quit. I have the same problem, none of the USB ports seem to work, I've tried a kb and mouse in bottom two slots as directed by Dell, and tried them in all the other USB slots. The keyboard doesn't light at all, the optical mouse briefly lights when it's half connected. I have tried two different keyboard that both work in another pc and a laptop. I cannot access the bios to set the boot order to upgrade the bios as there are no ps2 slots and the usb's are faulty :-( new mainboard time I think.

I have a Dell Dimension 5150. All worked fine then one day there was a UBS error of some sort and now, none of the USB ports work. I have plugged in two different sets of USB K & M. To no avail. It's like it's not getting enough power.

Re: dell usb problems
The only thing i can think of is your usb support in the bios settings which can be accessed by pressing del button while the comp is starting that option should be enabled if that doesnt work i think your keyboard and mouse might need replacing i can't see all usb ports being faulty it's very unlikely jim

You should check with the folks at Dell since whoever wrote their technical manuals for this machine can't do basic math. There are 2 memory slots and each can handle a maximum capacity of 512MB, yet they claim the maximum capacity for the machine is 2GB instead of 1GB. Using 512MB modules would probably work.
These are the system requirements: OS - Windows XP/Vista
Processor – XP: 1.8 GHz or faster / Vista: 2.4 GHz or faster
Memory – XP: 1 GB RAM / Vista: 2 GB RAM
Hard Drive – 7 GB (14 GB required for Digital Delivery)
DVD Drive – 8 SPEED (not required for Digital Delivery)
Video Card – 128 MB with Pixel Shader 2.0 support*
Sound Card - DirectX 9.0c compatible
DirectX - Version 9.0c (included)
Online Multiplayer – 512 Kbps or faster
Input - Keyboard, Mouse
This download is not supported on FAT16 and FAT 32 file systems.
*Supported chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6200 or greater (GeForce 8800
recommended for DirectX 10); ATI Radeon 9000 or greater. Laptop
versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Updates to
your video and sound card drivers may be required.
