Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop

Dell Dimension 5150 would not start

I have Dell Dimension 5150 that was purchased in Dec. 2005. I have Windows XP operating system. The computer some times shuts itself off or goes to restart. Most of the time I was able to restart without problems.

Then I had the problem that the switch that turns the computer on started to blink (orange) when turned on and stoped right there I was able to redtart the computer by unpluging all peripherals including the inner CD drive. Then "drain all charge" by unplugging power and pushing the start button for a few seconds. Plug power back on and start and start plugging peripheral starting with keyboard and mouse.

Now it has reached a stiuation that it can an not be restarted. The switch that turns the computer on starts blinking (orange) when turned on and nothing else happens.

I had done virus scan every time I was able to start the computer and no virus was detected.

Hi, there is a proper solution for you.

Just follow these instructions gradually...

1. Install its software from the dell web.
2. Before choosing the driver choose operating system as XP.
(You can use the following link; http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/dimension-5150x/drivers)
3. When ask for the device or dongle attach then not before starting the installation.

Can't start up message is "NTLDR is missing" I

You can try calling Dell to see if they will send you a re-installation CD. If it's out of warranty they will charge you for it. Either way you will need to have the OS (operating system software) CD to re-install Windows XP or Vista.

You can reboot by Operating system , Click start>Restart

OR

you can press power button for few seconds, it will power off, & then you can press power button.It will start booting up...

Somehow you lost the Computers Operating System. Try to insert the original windows disk and try the repair phase.

Dell Dimension 5150 desktop will not boot into windows xp home. I disconnected everything except hdd, keyboard and mouse. Same problem...will not boot into windows xp home. Did the recovery console...

Im sure the boot sector is a mess. If the cd wont fix the boot sector you may have to copy all his personal files from dos and restore the computer to factory settings.

Dimension 5150 computer wont boot up -flashing amber light

While the system begins booting --before the xp logo shows, if it gets that far for you, hold down the F8 key. This will bring up a menu. Choose "start windows in safe mode with networking".
The OS will start in safe mode. run a virus scan, defrag and scandisk, then restart the system. If is still wont boot normally, do the same thing then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot. If it still won't boot you may have to format the drive and reinstall the OS. good luck.

Dell dimension 5150 ethernet problem reloaded windows xp home from a windows xp entertainment os. apear fine but not receiving.

Okay, so it seems you installed Microsoft Windows XP Home on a what was Media Center Edition installation, and the ethernet is no longer worker.
Please refer to dell.com's support section, enter your model, and download drivers that you need.
To find drivers you need, Go to start --> control panel and then go to (under classic view) system --> the hardware section, open up device manager, and then look for ones with a yellow big question mark, and get those drivers from dell's website. Burn these drivers to a CD on another computer, or use a USB flash drive if that does work.
