You will be able to get Windows 7, however it will have to be a clean install. That means you'll have to back up all your docs, pics, videos, and whatever to CDs, DVDs, or a thumbdrive/s before you install Windows 7. Also, any software you have on XP will have to be reinstalled, assuming it is compatible with Windows 7. There are no guarantees. Welcome to the world of Microsoft. See more here.

Upgrading windows xp to windows 7 or do i have to upgrade to vista first

You cannot upgrade xp to win 7 because the kernels are so different. You can upgrade from vista to win 7. Just do a clean install of windows 7.
tip

Windows Installation Disc VS Windows Upgrade Disc -NOT THE SAME-

Having Trouble Booting To Your Windows Upgrade Disc?

...Upgrade discs aren't bootable discs. To repair a windows installation, you must use either a system repair disc or, better yet, a windows installation disc (genuine Retail/OEM discs are pretty much your only option to completely reinstall your windows operating system, unless you own a previous full installation disc of a previously released Windows version (such as XP or Vista), in which case you could install that windows operating system and then upgrade to a newer windows OS like windows 7. however if you ever need to reinstall windows 7, you would either need to reinstall the older windows OS, then upgrade to the newer one.

If that isn't clear, I'll sum it up....

Let's say you bought a computer, that computer had windows xp home edition. Maybe you wanted to upgrade from Windows XP/Windows Vista or Windows 7?
Well in order to switch from Windows XP/Vista to Windows 7, (or even from Windows 7 home premium- to windows7 Pro or Ultimate), then you must either:
A) Buy an upgrade disc and upgrade to the newer desired version.
B) Or, Buy a Retail Copy of the version you want to install. (keep in mind that a retail Windows 7 disc can be used to perform an upgrade rather than to competely wipe the hard disc and perform a clean install (delete partitions, reformat, and perform a new windows installation), if you so choose.

The bottom line is, you cannot Install a fresh clean copy of windows using an upgrade disc. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and Retail Windows Operation System Installation Setup Discs are "Bootable Discs". Windows Upgrade Discs are NOT bootable. (unless one where to "modify that particular disc, which is not legal).

I upgrade my lap top which was on vista pro to win 7 ultimate and some of my my device don't work properly like the webcam, the audio speaker...

Install DriverMax 6.41.0.363 or driveridentifier http://www.driveridentifier.com/desktop.php
and drivers choose to present it requires inscription on site.

I had the same problem but once I installed these two could find the drivers it needed. You can also go to the asus website and search for the model name of your laptop.

I have another problem: after install win7, the batery not charge.
I bought the laptop with Vista, but I installed XP, now installed Windows 7, everything is working perfectly but not charge the battery, I've tried everything: calibration, tested various power plans, I ended up buying a new battery but no result . I think it must be some kind of driver or change something in the BIOS that I lack despite having returned to install XP and Vista and battery re-charging without problem. if you can help me send email [email protected]
good luck

Acer aspire 5310 Wireless LAN indicator light on windows 7

That sort of comes with a OS upgrade, in upgrades from XP to Win 7, I'm supprised that's the only thing that is a issue. I upgraded a old gateway (2005) from XP to Win 7 Pro N 64bit. and had some hardware issues to deal with. Consider yourself lucky. You can get use to it or search endlessly for a fix. Try the Acer forums, you may run across the issue.

Ugrading to a newer system with higher performance specifications

You can upgrade you memory to 2 x 512MB DDR PC2700 333MHz, and install pretty much any size 2.5" IDE hard drive you wish. Installing Vista will make this machine very very slow. Windows 7 would be better as it uses less resources. Ideally XP Pro would be better suited based on this boards specifications.

Down grade windows 7 to xp pro on toshiba l505 s5990 need wifi and lan drivers

In my view, you should not downgrade Windows 7 to Windows Vista! Windows Vista is a freaky OS and don't support many software tools ! Later you will upgrade yourself! Try Windows XP, not Vista! :)

I would like to buy aHP Pavilion Slimline s5117c Desktop PC but i would like to downgrade to xp profesional is that possible?

It comes with Vista I think but of course you can install XP iff you have the disk. It would also be likely that HP will load XP for you if you request it as it is cheaper than Vista or windows. I have provided the link for the hp below but why not contact HP and ask if they will toss in a copy of xp instead of the upgrade to Windows 7. (by the way Windoes 7 is really a great system. I have installed it on my desktop and Laptop)

Downloaded window 7 on my netbook and forgot to backup before installing i had xp

Sadly, there is no direct upgrade path for XP (pro or home) to Windows 7, only Vista. Windows 7 from XP requires a clean install.

Still, check the hard drive and see if Windows 7 moved the files to another location. It installs differently from XP or Vista and there may be a chance they are still somewhere on the drive. Use the search feature to look for a known file and see what happens.

I my laptop cant boot windows 7 and xp together !

Hi,
Since you have installed XP after installing windows 7 & vista, you have erased the boot manager of vista. To get it back, just download & install Vista Boot Pro from http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/VistaBootPRO.shtml
