I'm having the same problem. The audio is fine, and all the buttons are fine and working. I can change the channels just fine but just can't see what's playing because the display light is out. Makes it a bit difficult to find the channel you need to switch to. My unit is exactly 2 years old and I'm not ready to spend more money on a new one just yet.

Just last week my backlight flickered on and off a few times and now it is lights out. The buttons light up but it takes holding it at an angle in a bright light to read the display. This is my second one I have owned as the first unit stopped broadcasting in stereo. I am finished with JVC products! JVC = Just Very Crappy!

Upper sise of screen flickering problem

Technology b> A laptop's display assembly consists of an LCD panel, an inverter board and a backlight lamp. The inverter board supplies power to the lamp which lights up the LCD screen as it generates images. Light from the lamp is then uniformly distributed over the panel to create images. b> Cause b> Flickering is commonly caused by a damaged or malfunctioning inverter. Because a faulty inverter is not able to supply adequate power to the backlight lamp, the screen goes dim each time the backlight loses power. In some cases, flickering may also be caused by a faulty connection between the inverter and backlight lamp. Diagnosis b> Resolving a laptop screen's flickering problem entails correctly diagnosing the problem and replacing the faulty component. You may diagnose the problem by hooking up the laptop to an external display unit, such as a projector. If the external display has the same display problem as the laptop's LCD screen, it is indicative of a motherboard or video card problem. If the external unit displays bright, crisp images, the problem is probably caused by the backlight or inverter. b> Solution b> You may repair a laptop screen's flickering problem by replacing the inverter board or backlight. Order parts from a trusted supplier and replace the component by referring to your product documentation.

No backlight

A) Replacement LCD screen backlight could be bad.
Happens. Sometimes you get a bad part. (Bad LCD screen assembly, in this case)

LCD screen may not be the correct one.

A screen Inverter, and an LCD screen; are a MATCHED unit.

B) Screen Inverter:
May be bad, or the Wrong one

C) You may not have the screen Inverter, connected correctly to the Backlight.
Connections aren't tight.

D) The Display Cable TO LCD screen connection may not be tight, or correctly connected.

I know the display shows graphics, but a poor connection of Display Cable to LCD screen, can make the Backlight dim out.

I'm betting it is a poor connection, or the wrong screen Inverter, or wrong LCD screen.

(Be shame to kick that laptop to the curb. Nice laptop)

Brightness can be adjusted by the hotkeys or within windows (system settings - backlight).
contrast can be adjusted with a potentiometer at the mainboard.
normally contrast does not change over the lifetime (my oldest 3090 is used 8h/day for 7 years)

some of the old 3090 have a CCFL backlight which dramatically losing brightness when getting old. you have to replace the tube or display unit.

Screen went black

For laptops, there is a lighting source behind, called the backlight.

It may happen that only the backlight needs to be replaced.

You can figure this out by looking thoroughly via the LCD screen. As if only the backlight needs replacement, you will still be having display behind.

Otherwise you will need to replace the unit.

Acer Aspire 5610 LCD backlight problem

If it is less than 1 year old, go to http://www.acerwarranty.co.uk for UK or http://support.acer.com/ for US.

I did this last year for my girlfriends laptop backlight problem and it was a free courier both ways and was repaired within 2 weeks (new part required). No cost to you.

Otherwise, sorry I dont know how to fix it.

Backlight flickers 2 years old to the date do you

Furuno has similar displays. I don't know if Eagle provides the same support but you may be able to find an actual schematic diagram technical manual from them if you ask nicely i don't know if Eagle has any government contracts but you can try and tell them you are with some government agency like DOD navy or coast guard or homeland security ;) and see if they will send you a PDF of the manual also try Retrevo.com they may have the techmanual on file. It sounds most likely like a connector problem between the LCD and the power supply. Does it only happen out on the water (vibration or shaking)?

W810i display backlight problem

You will have to replace this off eBay Im afraid, I have one in the shop but I would'nt be selling it on here or private. It would be listed on eBay or for my customers.

My 3 year old Dell Inspiron 710m screen won't light up

to see if its your backlight, shine a torch onto the screen and if all is visible then, your backlight is out.
they are not expensive but getting someone to replace it may be.

Backlight issue with the Vista HCx

I called Garmin. This is "As Designed", so we are stuck with this. Annoying, but all you have to do after turning the unit on is:

1) Press Lower Right button twice
2) Press Upper Right button once

Unit will now behave as you directed until you turn it off

I have a gateway monitor it shuts off a few minutes after I turn it and during use.I get a black screen?? it is only 2 years old. [email protected]

If it is a flat screen LCD monitor, the flourescent backlight is burned out.

Not too hard to replace.

Check eBay.
