Do not put a pm magnet to the screen. That will screw up the screen and give it a rainbow color effect. I use my soldering gun to degauss tv screens. But anything that generates a magnetic field from any power source will do.

Why do you think it needs to be degaused? What are the symptoms?

When i turn on my tv, the screen has like rainbow color all over it. i found out if you hold a magnet up to the screen, the color moves if you move the magnet. no picture of anything,,just color i...

To fix this, you need to do something called degaussing. You should keep magnets away from the screen in the future, because they cause this problem.
The first thing to try is to turn it on and off, making sure that all magnets and speakers (which have magnets in them) are kept far away from it. This will activate the monitor's auto-degausser if it has one. If this does not help, this guide: http://www.wikihow.com/Degauss-a-Computer-Monitor gives a couple solutions, including using a soldering gun (not a soldering iron), illustrated in the video below:
With a powerdrill:

Or investing about 60 bucks in a degaussing coil like this which is a guaranteed fix:
One other trick that might work is to take an old CRT monitor ("fat-screen" rather than "flat-screen"), hold it up to the tv screen to screen, and turn it on and off to have the monitor use its own degausser. The monitor may have a button to activate degaussing, or it may be in the menu you can bring up with the buttons on the bottom of the screen.
If you don't want to deal with any of this, a tv repair shop will degauss your tv for you quickly.

I have a blue -green color at the bottom of my Magnavox 27 inch/ Model 27MS343S screen. What do I do?????

Hello
Ir is due to the magnatization of the picture tube. there are tw main possibilities for this fault. The first one is , if you place any high intensity magnetic materials, like stereo speaker boxes, which contain high power magnets inside on speakes or so on. The second one is failure of degaussing posistor inside the circuit board of your Tv.
Every colur TVs has this posistor, ususlly called degaussing posistor, which will work each time you switch on your TV by AC mains, for a very little , say to some microseconds or so, and it will heat up then and its resistance will go up to infinite, not allow any current to pass through. It is connected to a coil fitted around the picture tube inside, and will demagnatize the picture tube each time you switch on the Tv. If you switch off regularly with remote control, this posistor will not work, as there will not full power off occurs.
Do one thing first. Switch off your TV with it front panel power ON/OFF swtich, or unplug it from the mains wall socket for some time, say 30 minutes or so, and the switch it on. In rare occations this will retify the problem. If not, replace the degaussing posistor with an identical type. OK.

Impurities on screen. Looks like old crt problem

It could very well be it needs de-gaussed or possibly the PTC in the TV which de-magnetises the screen may be faulty. In the worst case the shadowmask part of the TV could be at fault which would mean replacing the CRT

Magnavox 20mt4405/17 piece of junk!

Hello sletak, This problem is actually common. Your degaussing coil has malfunctioned, causing the power supply to become unstable which in trun is effecting the memory settings in the processor. You have threen problems in one so lets start by looking at the overall cause first 1) degaussing coil going bad (shorted then opened) Replace this and the thermistor that is attached to the degaussing circuitry. 2) power supply instability (power surge from the degaussing circuit) replace the damaged components in the power supply section. Troubleshoot this thoroughly. 3) after fixing the power supply and the degaussing components you will need to manually degauss the TV and then use the auto-degaussing function to do the rest. I hope this helps, Thank you, Shuttle83 http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com

Some of the color in my tv is not working

u just need to degauss ur TV. Either ur earthing is not proper or there is a magentic source (such as speaker/stabilizer/ups etc) which is not properly shielded. Next time take care of it.
