I have a craftsman 24hp model # 917.28970, how do one change/add fluid to transaxle or change. Is a filter required, and if so, which one? What type of oil is required. r

The fluid has been added to the transaxle,at the factory. You do not have to add or service it for the life of the tractor. That is unless, you have removed the transaxle and repaired it in some way. I don't know if this is a new tractor or not,if it is and you are having a problem with the transaxle, and is not working correctly. Try this,Sears fix to this situation is: Move the tractor forward about 5 feet then move it back 5 feet. What this does is,to eliminate air trapped in the transaxle. Sears, claims this may take several times. Why they didn't do this when they first serviced it,is anybodys guess. I'am late in answering your question, anyway i hopes this helps. It you have an Owners Manual,it will state this procedure in your manual. B. Locke

Hydrostatic transmission is slipping

This is a serious problem. If you are a serious repair person, you may be able to make a proper repair on a Hydrostatic Transaxle. I have seen this transaxle(Peerless Model, dissembled. There are gears, bearings and a whole lot small parts to a transaxle. I wouldn't want to take on,this task. Call Sears, for a repair appointment or get in touch with another professional repair shop. The problem, you have could be a simple,Adjustment or a major overhaul repair. I would not attempt,to give you any advice on how to make the correct repair. It will require,a repair manual. I know this may not answer, your question. But this is what i would do. Sincerely,Brad Locke

How do I add oil to my sears garden tractors transaxle model no. 917.273320

I'am not sure about this model. Craftsman, usually services the Transaxle at the factory. Requiring no further servicing, unless you have a leak developing, then an overhaul of the transaxle has to be made.I would get a professional in a mower shop,to make this repair. Or Sears does this sort of work. I have seen this Transaxle,(A Peerless Transaxle),torn down for repairs. There is more small parts to this transaxle, then anyone other than a Sears Tech or someone trained to do this. Its more work, than a weekend doer can possible do. Hope this is answers your question,Brad Locke DTD. 12/03/15

I had a (!) light come on and the message tire reset displayed where my mileage is displayed

the "check transaxle light," and it's to alert you that your transmission has issues that need to be addressed asap. From what I understand, if the issue is serious, the transaxle (transmission) is probably going to lock into second gear at some point for safety purposes. As fate would have it, there is no real middle ground for repair of these problems. You are God-blessed if there's a faulty sensor cause, which is possible, but unlikely. When transaxle issues occur on these vehicles, 99% of all remedies from dealers or tranny shops would require removal of the transaxle to perform the repair.
