Windows repair When trying to repair windows xp booting from cd get to loading files n then press r to repair.. It accepts the request to repair c drive but then asks for an administrator code.. I dont know the code...I am the same guy wit the runtime error posted earlier.. Check it out.. Any more ideas to help..

NTLDR is one of the essential files for booting up your system. If this file is corrupt or missing the computer wont simply boot. The solution here is to Get the CD for your operating system. For example Windows XP or Windows 7 etc. If you are using Windows XP, put the CD in the CD ROM and press Del or F2 to get into the BIOS of the computer. Go to the Boot Order or Boot Sequence and select the CD drive to be the first boot device and press F10 to save and exit. This will allow the XP CD to boot. On the first page after loading all the files, press enter, then you will have to press F8 to accept the Microsoft license, then you can select "R" to repair the system (This will only overwrite the contents in the C:\Windows and this will fix up your start up problem. If you are using Windows 7, boot from the CD like in XP then choose to repair your system.

You will need your XP CD to run a Repair install.

6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.


If you don't have an option to repair, try this:

1. Boot with XP CD.
2. Press R to load the Recovery Console.
3. Login to the Recovery Console using your Admin password if needed.
4. Type bootcfg
5. This should fix any boot.ini errors causing setup not to see the XP installation.
6. Try the repair install again.

If the Repair is still not an option, try the following:

1. Boot with XP CD.
2. Press R to load the Recovery Console.
3. Login to the Recovery Console using your Admin password if needed.
4. If the CD letter is K: give these commands

* copy K:\i386\ntldr C:\
* copy K:\i386\ntdetect.com C:\

While still in the Recovery Console, try this as well:

1. Type: attrib -h -r -s C:\boot.ini del C:\boot.ini
2. Type: BootCfg /Rebuild
3. Now Restart and try the Repair Install again.
