Ge 27831 Cordless dual phone 2nd handset doesn't work
Second try at this message.
My 2nd handset doesn't work. I installed and charged both batteries 16+hrs hten connected both bases today. Tired calling home from my cell phone. BAse phone rang but 2nd handset did not. I tried answering by pressing 'talk' but just got two beeps. Also I could not dial out with the 2nd handset. I pusched "talk" as instructed and then started to key in the number but after the 4th digit the unit beeped, emptied the number and slipped back to "talk" on the display.

Another user (thank yoiu but I'm sorry I forgot his/her name) had the answer. It was ihe instructions but I missed it. Needed to set the 2nd handset into the main base for 20 seconds so that it could align itself.

VERY IMPORTANT: BOTH HANDSETS MUST BE REGISTERED TO THE
MAIN BASE BEFORE USE. After the 2nd handset has charged for 16
hours, place it on the main base station for 20 seconds, it will then
automatically register and verify its security code.
You may have several problems. First, you should verify that the 2nd phone works. Unplug the battery from the "good" phone and place it into the "bad" phone. Then try to reset the "bad" phone by placing in the homebase charger for 2o seconds.
If this doesn't fix the 2nd phone, then it has an internal problem, possibly.
As far as the 2nd charger goes, please verify that it works by placing the "Good" phone in it to see if it will charge it.
Additionaly, you may need to "reset" the whole system. Do this by :
1 Unplug phone line, power to charger base, and remove the batteries.
2 Wait a couple of minutes.
3 Plug in battery first, then phone line, and finally the power cord.
Then try to set the phones in the basecharger. (If the new battery is not charged yet, then you will have to charge it first!)
I had the same problem. Once I read the owners manual I found the charge light blinks to indicate that you have voicemail waiting to be retrieved via telecom provider. Much to my surprise I have a voicemail account I never requested.
Another mystery solved - I now know why I missed so many messages.
I think your problem might be that the second handset is not registered with the base station. Take the second phone out of it's cradle and place it in the base station (where the first phone is), and leave it there for 20 seconds. Place it back in it's own cradle, and it should start working. Hope this helps! Hal
