I've had my sansa e250 for about a year now and just about a month or 2 ago my sansa e250 starting not working what i mean is the computer won't even recognize it. it loads half way and then stops at the same place every time. I've done the holding the power button down for 15 secs or longer and i've even taken the battery out and put it back in and still nothing. I'm also running on linux os if that makes a difference.

There are two connection settings in USB: MTP and MSC. For some reason MTP is the default, but it doesn't connect properly on all computers. Select MSC and plug the player in again, the computer will recognize sansa e250 but not show the driver just yet. It is installing recognition software (just basic drivers - nothing heavy) and it doesnt tell you what its doing until its complete. WAIT FOR IT. Once it is complete you will see both the sansa e250 and the removable memory slot in your "my computer" now you're good to go.
Try using Windows Media Player instead, and see if you get the same result. If it loads in Windows Media Player, then the problem is with WinAmp and not your Mp3 player. When you say it loads half-way, do you mean it loads half the songs and then shuts off? Is the Sansa running on low battery? WinAmp has some kind of update released in the past week - did you download the update, and then experience the problem? It's probably not this, because other users have had the same problem that you are reporting since at least Christmas 2007.
The following is an advice from another Sansa user, so I haven't been able to verify it myself: "I have to have WinAmp open and a song playing then connect my player and then it will work fine. If I just connect my player then start WinAmp it crashes"
If all of the above fails, reformat your player and start over from scratch. Let me know how everything works out - this is an issue that not even the Sansa website seems to have an answer for.
hi try this 1 with mp3 player off switch lock/hold button to on 2 press and hold rec button on left hand side keep held down 3 switch on whilst still holding down rec 4 it should now say recovery mode dont do nothing now dont connect to computer before you do this goto sandisk website and download the latest firmware once downloaded open the file then it will take you through the process of updating the firmware ok let me know how you get on ok and if you need further assistance ok
solution #1 : try HARD resetting it by holding the power button for 15 seconds.
solution #2 : install and use this tool to repair your sansa. Its called the Sansa Connect Recovery Tool. You get on the sandisk website, you have a manual also . go to : http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1532
Have you tried 'recovery mode'?
1. Lock your player and hold the record button.
2. While holding the rec. button, turn on the player. You're now in recover mode.
3. Connect it to your computer and update the firmware manually. (get the file from the sandisk website and drag it into the player drive.)
4. Turn on your player and hopefully it will work.
