This is a very common problem with windows laptops. This may or may not help but here goes. unplug power. then unplug battery from laptop. Now plug only power cord into laptop. Now turn on and start tapping the F2 fuction key. Once it goes into bios make sure that your boot order is cdrom first. Then save it and reboot with the bootable cd in the drive.
Also if now of this works unplugged Hard drive and see if it will boot up at all and into the bios setting. If you are not able to boot into the cmos make sure also that no cd is in the cdrom drive.
To enter the CMOS setup BIOS you hit f2 during the power on. After you enter the bios to the boot up screen and select first boot up = CD ROM. Save the configuration and reboot. Now pop in your windows XP cd into the CDROM, your computer will bootup from the CDROM. You can now reinstall windows.
Troubleshooting Steps Open the computer case and find the battery on the computer motherboard, verify that it will be accessible and that it can be removed. Most computers today use a coin cell CMOS battery. Removed the battery and put it back. This will reset the BIOS setting to default. Change the setting and select first boot device as CD ROM. If that doesn’t work then replace the CMOS battery. After replacing the CMOS battery please change the BIOS setting and select first boot device as CD-ROM.
turn off your comp.,go to cmos setup,go to boot option,make your cdrom as the first boot device.insert the support cf of your mboard to cdrom to recover the original rom bios because your bios file was corrupted already.dont turn off your comp, while flashing.
the computer is not recognizing the contents of your hard drive. you'll need a floppy with command.com, iosys.com and sysinfo.com on it. when inserted into the drive cmos looks here first. if you can access the cmos, check the search parameters to see what the computer boot up sequence is. you may want to change it to recognize the cdrom first, then the hard drive, then the A drive. I had a compaq armada that gave me the same message but I was able to reformat the drive off DOS 6.2 and changed the boot up sequence.
best thing to do is disconnect floppy, take all other board/pc card out of the computer remove cdrom, now you just have a hard drive turn it on see where it goes. if it doesnt work try a different hard drive or just the cdrom but make sure you have boot from cdrom on in your bios.
if you want too boot your computer when you start computer thne click delete click one or more time and setting screen available. set first boot cdrom option select.. and save satting. and restart. then you are cdrom open and put bootable CD in cdrom and restart computer see bootable your computer..
Hi,
You backup Lithium battery may require replacement. The CMOS/BIOS not remembering you prescribed setting is an indication that though the settings were saved, they were not retained and therefore when booted would display the "F1" "Del" choices.
Even if the new DVD writer is configured/attached as Primary Slave, as long as you set it to be the first bootable device, the computer would boot from the DVD first. Again, this is done in the CMOS/BIOS setup (as you have done). But the CMOS/BIOS must execute this if retained in its memory.
In some rare instances, even with a new battery, this problem do occur. The issue is no longer the battery but discreet components along the memory B+ line such as a reverse protection diode, surface mounted jumper resistor.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Hi,
A couple of possibilities:
With a known good DVD with files inserted into your Compaq CR-589, double click in your My Computer, double click in your CD/DVD.
1. If it opens and displays the content, then there is nothing wrong with your DVD but the auto start feature of your OS was disabled, enable auto start;
2. If in My Computer or in Device Manager, the DVD doesn't show up, then it can be hardware problem, IDE/power cable problem, bios did not recognize DVD device, replace if and as needed;
3. If the DVD is in My Computer but will not display the files or contents, possibly defective DVD, replace.
Hope this worksa out for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.
