Please connect it to external monitor. If it is not affected there. there, it could be an issue with backlight or inverter.- a hardware issue.

SOURCE: When HP laptop is pluged into power source screen goes dim

Right click on the battery icon in the taskbar, go to Power Options or something similiar. Change the plan settings for the power plan you're currently in. Check the brightness ratio for both battery and plugged in mode. This problem might come if you or someone had tinkered with the settings.

SOURCE: MY Laptop Screen Is Dim It Will Not Show Bright

When you say that your laptop "screen is dim", do you mean that there is no light coming from your screen, but you can see images on it? or do you mean that there is light coming from the screen, just a very little amount?

If you can images, but NO light is coming from the screen, then the LCD backlight is dead, and it needs to be replaced.

If there is light coming from the screen, but it's very dim, then you'll need to find the screen brightness adjustment keys on your laptop. This is usually two keys. The first one is normally in the lower left corner of your laptop and should be a different color - like blue or purple, and will be labeled something like "Fn". The second key is normally in the function key row (F1, F2, F3, etc...) and has a symbol on it that looks like a sun or burst of light with an arrow. There's usually one for "brightness UP" and one for "brightness DOWN". Hold down the Fn key, and then press the "Brightness UP" key a few times to see if the screen brightens up. Good luck.

3414 gateway laptop backlight goes out

First look at the buttons on your keyboard. Look for keys that have a sun or light figure on them. It will not be the traditional white color, probably blue, or red, some off color. A particular laptop is a Dell Inspiron, and it has the symbols on the Up and Down arrows. It looks like a sun symbol. The symbols are blue in color, which means there has to be another key on the laptop that is also blue, that you will have to press in conjunction with these keys to perform the function. This is similar to a function key on a calculator. The default setting on your laptop is going to be power conserving. Meaning that when you unplug your laptop, the screen will dim to save power. You can change this by increasing the brightness. So in conclusion, in order to keep your laptop screen bright, you need to turn up the brightness when the laptop is unplugged. Make note that when you do this, the power consumption will increase.

The screen is really dark

Locate the Fn (Function) key on your keyboard. It may be on the bottom left side with dark blue letters. Locate the two "brightness" keys near the top of the keyboard. These will be in the "F" keys, possibly if F6 and F7. They should have little sun pictures or something similar to indicate brightness. Hold down the Fn key while pressing F7, or whichever "F" key your laptop uses to increase brightness. Tap F7 repeatedly until you reach the desired brightness. Fn must be held down as you continue to tap. Hope this helps.

How to bright my laptop screen

Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit the key that brightens the screen. The key that brightens will normally have the icon of a sun or circle with little sprockets and the up arrow on it. It looks like a washer that goes between nuts and bolts.

Deem light in display

Occasionally, you may find your laptop's monitor is too dim for your liking. A normal desktop computer's monitor has an on-board menu system that lets you adjust the brightness and picture control settings as you please. A laptop monitor has no such controls. You can adjust the brightness of your laptop monitor using your laptop's keyboard.

1.Press and hold the "FN" key on your laptop's keyboard. This is the "Function" key, which operates much the same way that the "Shift" key does: It allows keyboard buttons to be used for multiple purposes. It's located in the lower left corner of most laptop keyboards, next to the "Windows," "CTRL" and "ALT" keys.
2.Look at the top row of keys on your keyboard for a key with a tiny triangle pointing upwards and the symbol of a sun on it. This is the "Increase Brightness" key. With the "FN" key held down, press the "Increase Brightness" key. On most laptop keyboards this is the "F7" key, but it varies depending on the model.
3.Continue to hold down the "FN" and "Increase Brightness" key until your dim laptop monitor has reached the level of brightness you require. A laptop monitor can only get so bright. It will stop at its highest setting.
4.Release the "FN" and "Increase Brightness" keys. You have now fixed your dim laptop monitor.

I hope you find it very helpful.

The LCD screen on my Gateway M-6317 is dim. How

Press and hold the 'FN' key and tap the key that has the picture of a sun and an up arrow (or some other similar picture that dictates brightness - there should be two different keys that affect brightness one to increase and the other to decrease). Once you have the brightness set to your liking quit tapping the 'brightness' key and release the 'fn' key

Adjusting brightness for my gateway 3520 laptop

Most likey the dim screen while running on batteries is the power saving feature. This can be changed in the operating system configuration. Assuming you have Windows, you should be able to right click on the desktop, click Properties then the Screen Saver tab. I have a desktop so I won't see the same details as a laptop. Just go to the appropriate settings & change them to give you higher performance for use with the battery. You may also be able to adjust the brightness with the Function key & another key combination. Look at the blue or green colored silkscreening on some of the keys on your keyboard & maximize the brightness while running on batteries only. Next time you reboot, it should remember your previous settings. Hope this works for you.
