I have a Vitantonio Premier Classic Waffler 1800 that I'm borrowing and the waffels are sticking. I tried cleaning it with cooking oil. How can I restore it so the waffles won't stick for the next batch? It seems to have a non-stick surface but I'm afraid to wash it with warm water. Furthermore the grids are not detachable from the iron. Need info ASAP.
I have had the same Vitantonio Model 1800 waffle maker for several years, and I've never had a sticking problem. My solution is a combination of the two above. I spray the grids with cooking spray before the first batch, but I don't need it after that because my preferred batter, which is from the Fannie Farmer Cookbook, has a lot of butter in it:
BUTTERMILK WAFFLES
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup melted butter (cooled)
1⅓ tablespoons sugar
⅓ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
1⅓ teaspoons baking powder
1 cup flour
¼ cup milk (if needed)
1. Beat eggs in large bowl with wire whisk until well blended.
2. Add buttermilk and mix well
3. Add melted butter and mix well.
4. Add sugar and salt and mix well.
5. Add baking soda and baking powder and mix until just blended in.
6. Add flour and mix until just smooth; do not over beat.
7. If batter seems rather thick, add a little milk to thin it.
8. Bake in hot waffle iron until crisp and golden (I use the highest setting on the Vitantonio 1800 and wait until the green light comes on before removing).
9. Serve with warm maple syrup and berries, if desired.
I have a non-stick waffle iron and I still spray both sides with Pam before I pour batter on the iron.
Try using 2 Tablespoons of oil in your recipe.
