Model DWLR473ET0WW Makes buzzing noise when I attempt to start it but will not start

Hello, I have a GE dryer model number DWLR473ET0WW. I am not sure how old it is or what model name is because it came with the house... Recently it started getting tougher to get it to start and when it did start it ran really noisily. Now when I attempt to start it it just buzzes. After a while it won't even do that, but if you wait a period it will go back to buzzing again. I read of a similar problem on this site and someone suggested that it might be the motor capacitor and to turn the drum to check this. If I open the top and spin the drum while trying to start the dryer it will sometimes start running and run indefinitely. Does this mean that there is no problem with the motor and only the motor capacitor, or could it still be the motor?

I took apart my Ge dryer to put 3 in 1 oil on bearing now I can't get the front to lock back in place

Hello;

My name is peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

First, you do not lubricated bearing in a clothes dryer. These are designed non lubricated bearings. When you lubricate the bearings they becomes seized up with lint and then you have real problems.

You have not provided any information on your model. So I can not instruct you.

Your model number is on a metal tag on the face or top of the door when you open the door.

Go into the following web site and put in your model number. You will have a diagram of your unit.

To replace the belt on GE Dryer DISR473DG1WW, we will need to open the back of the cabinet, right? Is there a repair manual showing the process? Does this dryer ship with a spare belt inside?

Hello, W/D here.
I'm not aware of any dryers shipping with a spare belt on board, but this may vary by region.
You are correct in that the back is removed to gain access to the belt. Disconnect the power first. If there isn't a spare in the cabinet (probably not), take the old belt with you to your local appliance parts supply house and get a replacement, or it may be ordered on-line. The belt number will be on the belt.
Here's a good website showing how your model is assembled. This site also has parts descriptions and prices; useful for comparison shopping. There is also usually a button-link to a free downloadable manual. Here 'tis: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/GE-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-DISR473DG1WW/0432/0151200?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=DISR473DG1WW
Another good site to check for parts is: http//www.appliancepartspros.com.
Armed with these items, replacing the belt will be child's play for you!
Best regards, (and please rate this solution), --W/D--

How come when i changed the belt there is so much play on the new belt im not sure if i have the idler tensioner on right ?

That could be the problem look at how the belt is running thru the tensioner and the shaft of the motor. Then run the belt the opposite way if still the same you might have the wrong belt. Get the model number off the dryer and take new belt back to parts house with model number to make sure its right hope this helps.

Lp gas dryer. sometimes when drying smells like butane lighter. venting is wright i think i followed manuel for correct length of venting.maytag dryer 8 years old. thank you

If you have recently painted or varnished something in your house the fumes could be the cause. They react to the heat in the dryer. Let the house air out for a few days.

Heating

The most common cause of heater failure is the thermal cutout/thermal fuse/temperature cutout(any of a dozen names for the same thing from different manufacturers) a device on the exhaust ducting near the fan housing. on over temperature, when the air temperature is hotter than the normal range set by the thermostats, these units melt out,
they are not resettable, they are replaced, ~$8 each, except where manufacturers are gouging
they look usually like this 2543d18.jpg or this d733938.jpg conduction good, open circuit fail
common to many dryer models the local parts guy will have them to suit, even if they are labelled with a different make or model
