There is a switch on the side of your SD memory card. If it is on LOCK position, it won't allow you to save pictures on it. You need to set it UNLOCK.

Says "memory card is write protected" on screen. AND and i in the corner. HOw do I reset?

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

What is the "card locked" ? when the camera comes

Your memory card is an SD type. These cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

Camera says card is locked but it's not!!!

You already know about the 'lock' switch on SD cards; did you know it doesnt actually lock the SD card by itself? It merely pushes a switch lever in the reader (in this case, your camera), that in turn tells the electronics to NOT write on the SD card.

So, if your SD cards are indeed working (check on a card reader), it would look like the lever in the camera that senses the position of the lock switch is jammed / bent. If you could pry into the card slot in the camera, and try to shake this lever with a long narrow object (a straightened paper clip, perhaps), that might yield good results.

Alternately, look up 'CHDK' on Google; it is an alternate OS that gives your Canon *lots* of other features. In your case, more importantly, it *requires* the SD card to be locked in use. Dont worry, with CHDK booted in, the camera will store pictures even when it sesnses the card is write-protected. So, it not only solves your problem, it gives you loads of extra features like RAW capability, time laps, remote operation and more, all for free.

HI there its not locked. Follow the step below & let me know.
1. Use a fully charged rechargeable battery & remove the memory card.
2. with out memory card if its working then the card is damaged or virus infected. So please format the card and fix it back. Then try to power on your camera with memory card. I hope your problem will solve them. If not then i suggest you contact with service center. Chances of Lens guide pin damaged/ processor may corrupt. Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

Memory Card Locked

Do you have a computer that will read the "memoery cards"? Try reading the cards. If there is nothing on the card you still should get a message telling you the status. Check the setup of the camera. Some cameras allow you to lock the memory card from setup memu. You might also need to "format" the card before you use them.

I thought the cards have a little tab on them so they can be "write protected" it is a little plastic tab on the side of the memory card you slide up and down. I know most SD cards have it, CF cards dont so if its anything besides SD memory its probobly the memory card or some little switch or somthing in the camera that tells the camera when the card is in the "Locked" or "Write protected" mode. Looking at my SD memory cards they have a little arrow on the edge and they say "Lock" pointing down, the slider is up. Move yours both ways, maybe it has a bad connection in the card (im not sure what it actualy does) or its in a position the camera thinks its locked?
