Re:
Lol if i was you i would of buy a new external fan that goes on top of ur ps3 u can find one at game stop for like 30 bucks i had the same problem it seems to work ok but i am sending mine in just to play it safe u know
Ummm.... Don't. Or just duct tape the new one two the back of the ps3, splice the wires and run them to your washer/dryer plug and stick the copper wire in the 220 connection (you will have to unplug your dryer but your ps3 wont overheat anymore).

Cooling fan relay could be bad . cooling fan fuse - C/FAN 40 amp. under hood fuse box , as are C/FAN lo & C/FAN HI relay's . Video's on youtube on testing relay's an power an control circuit's at the relay base .socket etc... Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model an engine size. Under system click on engine , then under subsystem click on cooling system . Click the search button then the blue link . Looking at the diagram i see the ECM controls the cooling fans relay's . You mite want to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.
check to see if there is voltage coming to the fan, check to see if it changes when the engine gets warm indicating that the sensor is working and sending a signal to the fan, if it does change and the fan does not come on then it is the fan itself
The best place to look is online for one. Search trusted sites like Amazon, Newegg, Tigerdirect, and FrozenCP. I don't know if you can find these in stores anymore due to the Slim being out and it being the main one with any support left. I have included a link to get you started.
hi there,
it sounds like your ps3 is overheating, which is a common problem with the console. this happens when you play a lot and for long periods, it also can happen if the fan has stopped working or there is not enough air getting into the system to keep the gpu and cpu cool. games are very graphic power hungry thus putting the gpu under pressure and causing it to heat up, and if there is no air or not enough air getting into your system to keep the gpu cool, it will overheat and cause your game to freeze. 1st thing you should do id make sure that the fan is working at the back of your console, just turn on your console and look to see that the fan is spining, if this spinning then thats good, if not thats your problem there and will probably need to be replaced. If it's spinning then most likely there is just not enough air getting into the system, so you should move your ps3 outm into an open space to allow plenty air to get into it, you can also give the fan a clean of any dust and dirt, and if you have some sort of an air blower, give the ps3 a quick blow out through the air vent at the back of the console. Hope this helps.
Don't do anything your fan is just fine it's just running faster to keep it cool when you hear a clicking sound at high speed then you should be worried about it cause your fan is failing and should be replaced
Because the console feels hot, it appears that heat is adequately reaching the heat sinks which are attached to the major heat producting chips.
Unfortunately, it sounds as though your cooling fan is either obstructed or has failed. This problem can only be rectified by opening the unit and clearing dust, or replacing the fan.
Sony will repair the unit for you for a fixed fee, I believe the fee is $150.
hi there, this is a problem with the system cooling state. your ps3 is unable to operate at an acceptable temperature due to this malfunction in the cooling fan regulator. unfortunately, this is a repair that will have to be preformed by a skilled Sony tech.
I have solution for all of you. You need to call sony at 1-800-345-7669. They will send you a box so you can place you unit in (ps3). If you got warrany on your ps3 they will ask you to send in a copy to varify that it is still in warrany. If it is then they will not charge you anything they will open up the system and see what the problem is either fix the ps3 or they will replace it with a refuribished one. Also you need to make sure that the warrany tag on the ps3 upper right side is still there or they will charge you 150 dollars. And if the serial on the back is removed they will not even service your unit. If you unit is not in warrany they will charge you 150 dollars. Wich is real good because they will dust the interior of it good luck everyone...
