There are only two moving parts in this set. The fans and the color wheel. Typically when the color wheel starts to break or go on the fritz, the tv stops working. Count your blessings you've still got the picture. Open the back and turn the tv on. The color wheel is located on the optics block tray. The fans are very visible with the back off. Stop the fan for a second and see if the sound goes away. If not, you might want to start looking around for a replacement color wheel. Rivervalleyelectronics.net is a good place to start. Sometimes Discountmerchant.com carries them too. Be aware that there two different wheels available. If the fan is the culprit of your problem. Radioshack will likely have a replacement for you. If you need further help, post a comment or email me and I'll send you pictures of what to look for. [email protected]
Good luck.

Oh, I almost forgot, use a piece of tape to hold the lamp door switch up while you check for the noise. If you don't bypass that switch, the TV won't stay on. I believe its a small blue lever right next to the lamp door.

No, samsung is a very user/service friendly tv. The only lethal parts on this set are the ballast and the power board, but you'd have to have them running at full blast and use a screwdriver to discharge them (intentionally). You'll be fine, just don't fumble around. Bojomo, whats your specific problem?

Humming noise tv makes

The hum comes from a bad 60 cycle bleed into the audio circuit usually from a bad capacitor or other failed component. It will need to go to a television shop for service, but I would recommend replacement. $500 and you have a new TV verses $400 and you still have the same old worn out unit. The other cause could be you have the audio and video cables reversed on a video input.

Have a Samsung HLR5067Wax, I replaced the bulb, however when the TV turns on the picture is distorted and pixelated. What can cause this?

U recheck all the input and output wires connections take out and put back in for the replacement of the projection lamp? The tv colors wheel might be also dead too.Picture now, flashes colors or black&white within the picture itself?Any humming or motor noises, any these causes are the colors wheel is dying, require replacement of the tv colors wheel.

I installed a new bulb and i still dont have a picture, when i turn the set it on it makes a loud humming noise.

The problem that you have is not about bulb at all. Color wheel inside of your optical engine is shattered into pieces. It have to be replaced.
Regards.

I replaced the light bulb, now it displays -F6- and pushing any button causes a humming noise.

I left the unit unplugged over night, plugged it back in the next day and still had the same problem.
