Question about Mitsubishi WS-55511 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Auto Shut Off

Originally, video went out sound remained on. Cycled power, now TV shuts off automatically after a few seconds without audio/video ever comming on. Picture going out with audio on makes me think it is a HV problem and that now the power supply is in an autoprotect mode, shutting the tv down during a power ON selfcheck. Any feedback is appreciated.

I already have the manual. Thanks. The diagnostic says error 22, Short. I tracked down 2 bad components. D9A60 & F9A04 both in the +24V supply. C9A68 is also questionable. This supply feeds IC8C01 (Convergence Amplifier) which appears to be the culprit. When I took board out of the set, I found fluid on the board and the leads on IC8C01 have separated from the die. What is the fluid? Only thing I can think of is the CRT coolant. Any other possibilities? If it is the coolant, is this something a skilled do-it-yourselfer (Professional Electrical Engineer) can tackle or are there special tools required?

My TV is not wokring at all, I can power on, in about 2-3 seconds it makes a sharp buzzing/Shocking sound and turns off. What could this be?

It is a possibility, bu there is a self diagnostics on the TV set to help guide you to the problem. I do have this service manual that will assist you to service the problem you have. That's a bargain. This manual is normally 25 bucks! The self diagnostics in on page 30 of the service manual. Please leave an e-mail address if you wish to receive the manual. It will not fix your set, but can get you on the path to a repair. Good Luck

Yes great guess on the fluid. You will need to take the board out asap and wash the board off really well as this fluid will corrode the board really bad, and after a while the traces will burn off the board. The fluid leak if not a really bad one can be left alone as long as the fluid loss does not affect how the picture looks. You will have to wait for the set to work before you decide if the picture on the leaky tube is causing a color shadow in the picture. If that is the case, the tube will need to be removed from the set, the fluid drained, the lens assembly removed and you will need to obtain a new "O" ring to seal the fluid into the tube. You can get the coolant fluid from Just go to the site and under search, type in coolant fluid. You can also get the right replacement IC's for the convergence there as well. Do not go for the least expensive, as most sites carry the cheap aftermarket IC's and they do not always have the same specs as what the manufacturer calls for. Now if the fluid is just a small leak, Hitachi and Mitsubishi uses a flat piece of plastic under the picture tubes to redirect the leaking fluid. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Did you check the service manual troubleshooting guide yet. You can try disconnecting the power to the inverter board and see if it will stay on and have sound.

power in the tv has nothing related with the DVD. The tv has to have raster (white screen) even without signal (cable, DVD, others) if the tv alone is just having the led flashing and neither sound nor video (black screen) The tv has a short circuit in some of the boards that are part of the tv system. the blinking is part of a protection when the tv was created in the factory. Refer to the technician to repair this problem.

No new video card required. I just reset the television by holding the on/off button for five seconds (yellow light on front panel blinks repeatedly). I then cycled power using the remote control and my picture came back. Worked for me. Hope it works for you.

I can't be exactly sure without more information, but it sounds like you ps3 is outputting from another port. My ps3 originally was outputting from the component/composite cable port so in order to use the hdmi output I had to do a soft reset. That makes the ps3 sense what cable is plugged into it and automatically output through that port instead of using whatever is the saved setting.

With your ps3 turned on hold down the power button for a few second until it beeps and flashes 3 times (should be about 5 seconds). You might have to try it a few times to get it to work, but you should get picture and be able to adjust the settings on the ps3.
