How to connect to the internet

Accessing the internet on your mobile phone has never been cheaper or easier. If you're looking for a new mobile, you'll find that almost all the latest handsets can connect quickly to the internet. Connecting to the internet on your mobile is actually very straightforward, however if you're not sure how to make the most of this great phone feature, we've put together this handy guide to help you. Get set up To access the internet on your mobile phone you need: a mobile phone that supports internet access a mobile phone service that supports data transmission, such as 3G and Wi-Fi an account with data settings for accessing an internet server on your phone. Many phones come preloaded with data account settings. If yours does not, you should speak to your service provider. Using the internet Many phones come with one-touch internet access; simply hit the web-browser button on your phone and you will connect straight away. This will either be on the main menu screen, or within the Applications menu. Your internet home page will usually be a web page saved into the phone, most likely a home page for your mobile provider. This will be the page from which you can access all online services from your phone. Of course, you can change this easily from the browser's settings menu. Usually when you access the internet from your mobile, you will see this page offline and can choose from a list of online services such as: Search internet Accessories Download games Download ringtones You could select any web page to be your home page when you connect, and from here you can access any other internet page as you normally would. You can also bookmark your favourite web pages in your phone's browser. Bookmarks mean that you can organise the addresses of your favourite and frequently visit web pages in a handy and easy to manage way. When connected to the internet on your phone, you can navigate as you would from a PC or a laptop using your mobile's keypad, trackpad, or touchscreen. Downloading content Downloading music, ringtones, photos, or videos on your mobile phone works in much the same way as it would from your PC or laptop. Most mobile phones have dedicated music or media download software which enables you to quickly and easily transfer files between your mobile and your PC or laptop, for example iTunes for Apple iPhones. This software also allows you to transfer music from your computer and CD's onto your phone. Internet security Your internet-ready mobile phone should support secure browsing. It's worth remembering that using certain internet services on your mobile, like banking for example, could require your phone to have security certificates. Your phone may have all the necessary security certificates when you buy it, however, if it does not, you should contact your service provider. If your phone does require security certificates to allow you to connect to the internet and use certain services, you can often download the certificates straight to your phone, or transfer them from your computer to your mobile just as you would with any other file.

Accessing Facebook needs internet connection. Without any active connection, you will not be able to connect to internet.

I am getting an error of 51330 what does that mean?

Hi ahelton239,

51330 - means that you cant connect to the internet. Most likely that you've enter a wrong Network Key or Passphrase.

You need to access your Wireless Settings Page of the Router to get the Network Key or Passphrase. Listed below are the steps on how to access your router. if you don't know the username and password of your router just reply to my answer and provide the make and the model of it.

How to access the Router:

1. You need to know the ipaddress of your router. You can refer to the manual or check the Default Gateway of your computer (Make sure that you connect the computer to the router using an ethernet cable for you to get the Default Gateway). Click on START then RUN. Type CMD on the small box on the lower left of the screen. Type IPCONFIG on the black window and get the value of your DEFAULT GATEWAY (it starts with 192.168.x.x)

2. Open a Browser, Type the DEFAULT GATEWAY on the address bar of your Browser. It will ask you for a username and password. (Refer to the manual of your router or post a reply so that i can provide you the username and password of your router)

3. Go to the Wireless Settings Page of your router. Look for the SSID or the Network Name and the Network Key or Passphrase. You can personalize it so that you can easily remember the details.

4. Make sure you connect to your SSID and enter the Network Key to make it secure.

What dos SSID mean and how do i put internet on my psp

Hi Littel Angel,

SSID means Service Set Identifier or the Name of the Network (Network Name). For you to connect to the internet you need to check the settings of your router using a working computer with internet connection. I've listed down the steps on how to access your router to obtain the settings for you to connect your PSP.

You can personalize it so that you can easily remeber the details.

4. Make sure you connect to your SSID and enter the Network Key to make it secure.

Uplink internet (PPPoE) will not be accessible after power cut

You are using the PPPOE connection. when you set up the router for the PPPOE connection, Do you see Internet IP address on the status page of the router.
If you have the internet IP address on the status page of the router then that is a very good thing. make sure that it shows the Internet connection type pppoe on the status page also.
your computer are communicating with each other they have the IP address that is a good thing also.
Now you can check the internet connection.
open the command prompt ( START ==> RUN == type cmd and click OK) In the command prompt try to ping the router IP address.
Suppose your router IP address is 192.168.1.1. then in the command prompt type " ping 192.168.1.1 " and hit ENTER on your key board.
You will get replies from the same IP address that is 192.168.1.1.
that means the connection between the computer and the router is working properly.
Now type in the command " ping 4.2.2.2 " and hit enter.
If you get the 4 replies from 4.2.2.2 that means you computer is communicating with the DNS servers. If you get the reply form different number or if you do not get replies that means the router is not set up properly or user name and password for the pppoe might not be proper.
Now you got 4 replies from 4.2.2.2.
Then type the command " ping yahoo.com" and hit enter.
Now check if you get replies from yahoo.com ( there might be replies from the number 66.x.x.x. or 207.x.x.x).
If you get the replies then everything is working properly. the issue might be with the firewall or internet browser.
Now if you don't get replies from yahoo.com but getting replies from 4.2.2.2 that means you will need to assign static DNS numbers on the computer.
In preferred DNS = 4.2.2.2
in alternate DNS = 4.2.2.3
that will resolve the issue.

Netopia Gateway has internet connection, can ping, but no web pages

Connect directly to your ISP by what ever method. Get Network Magic from Cisco. Download the free evaluation copy and run it. Reintroduce your router and let Network Magic help you solve the trouble. It may be that your firewall is too tight.

I hope this helps you

Cabel to router

More details would be helpful.
Is your internet cable, dsl (telephone) or something else?
What is the make and model of your router?
Are you trying to connect wired or wireless?
What operating system are you using.

Assuming that this is a wired router with DHCP turned on and your network adapter is configured to obtain IP and DNS addresses automatically. Turn off or unplug everything. Connect the cat5 cable from the cable or dsl modem to the WAN or INTERNET port on the router. Connect a cat5 cable from any of the other ports to you computer. Now turn the cable/dsl modem on and wait 60 secs, then turn the router on and wait 60 seconds, finally turn your computer on.

BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING (assumes XP with at least SP2)
Open a Command window - START - RUN and type in cmd, click OK
A Black windows with white text opens.
type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes and press enter
this should display your ip address, the default gateway and dns servers
type ping followed by your default gateway address example: ping 192.168.0.1
if you get a reply this means that he communication between your computer and the router is ok
next ping 74.125.19.147
This is the ip address for google, if you get a reply you do have access to the internet
try your browser, if it shows page cannot be displayed, enter this in the address bar -
http:\74.125.19.147
If you see a google page open up it means you have a dns problem, go back to the command window and type "ipconfig /flushdns"
If you cannot even ping your gateway, open the command windows and type "netsh winsock reset catalog" then reboot

More details in your questions means more specific answers :)

Can not get on the internet

What do you mean cannot get on the internet? when you are plugged into the router does this mean you cannot see any web pages? are you able to pull an IP address from the router? Check if your able to ping Gateway (router) and get a reply back. To do this go to your start command then run and type CMD and hit enter... a dos like window will come up then type the command ipconfig and hit enter again... look for the "default gateway" ex) 192.168.0.1 and then try to ping it! do this by typing ping 192.168.0.1 you should get something like this.

S:\>ping 163.254.16.1
Pinging 163.254.16.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 163.254.16.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=255
Reply from 163.254.16.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=255
Reply from 163.254.16.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=255

if you do then that means your getting a reply back from the router and the connection between the 2 are fine. If the router is unable to obtain an ip address from your vendor.. there could be multiple reasons why. Does your provider do mac filtering? also you can try upgrading the firmware on the unit by going to linksys.com and searching for the latest firmware.. let me know how your tests go.
