With the c510 plugged into the cig lighter it was working fine. turned car off and the unit displayed message 'lost external power source and shutting down in 25 seconds'. When I got back to the car tried to power up again and screen remained black and hasnt worked since. have tried reset button but nothing happens. Please help

hopefully nothing serious. if you can, make sure your wires did not burned or got too hot.Visually inspect them. Then, if you have a voltmeter check to see if you getiing power to it. no voltmeter? Go to your nearest auto parts store and ask for a test light.
Back to the lighter, if you have power on the wires or wires leading to the back of the lighter, more than like it you lighter burned out.
No power on the wires? make sure wire did not get fryed or burned, all wires look good? check fuses again.
worst case scenario, can't find problem ? you can run another wire from your fuse box to the lighter.
the fuse box is located under the driver side dash and the cig lighter fuse is in position 16 and the fuse amp rating is 20 it will be yellow in color. if you cant find # 16 position then pull all yellow fuses one by one to check.
