Camera I went to change my batteries with the camera still on my shooter lense did not retract and when I put the new batteries in I now have no power it is not working at all. I checked the batteries and still nothing

Your batteries are too low.
When you switch on the camera, the lense go in. Then lense comes out fully. Then, if the batteries are low, lense goes in and camera turns off.
But if the batteries are too low, camera turns off before the lense retracts or even before the lense comes out fully.

Remove the batteries from the Camera. Then press and hold the power button down for 45 to 60 seconds. Replace the batteries with new ones and install them in the camera. Then turn it on and wait until it finishes its normal warm up, then press the power button to turn it off. This should make the lense retract back to normal position. If the lens does not retract, contact the manufacturer for assistance with repair work.

I did not have access to new batteries and did not have my charger with me so I put the camera on my car seat and went home. After charging the batteries, I turned the camera Off and the lense retracted 100%. Later on I tried to transfer some pictures to my PC. After connecting the camera to my PC with the dial in the P position and lense fully open I turned the dial to play in order to transfer photos. After transferring the pictures, I turned the camera off and disconnected from the computer.

I turn the camera on to take new pictures next day, The lense would go up, and and turn with lense fully open. It would never close. The screen was black with a message "Turn the camera on and off again". I tried 30 times or more and the same thing would happen again.

Here is what I did to fix my camera and it has been working normally since then.

1- I cleaned around the outside of the lense with lent free cloth

2- I used dust OFF to get raid of the remaining small dust particles from around the lense.

3- While turning the camera off, I pushed (down, up and turn) the lense in (NOT TOO Hard) by my hand. If you push the lense too hard, you may damage the mechanicall moving parts of the lense.

4- After a few tries, the lense retracted 90% +. I then pushed the lense a little harder all the way in, the way it normall retracts. The lense cover also closed 100%.

5- I turned the Camera on and off a few times. It was opening and closing exactly the way it used to. My Cybershot has been working okay since then.

I read a lot and here is what cause my lense to malfunction.

Try different batteries. I got the same problem with my cyber-shot. The battery was too low while lense was fully open. I recharged, but the lense would not close. When I turn it on, It would say turn off and on again. I did that for at least 20 times. I finally put another set of batteries and while I turned off the camera, I pressed the lense in very softly. After a couple of times the lense retracted fully. The camera has been working normally ever since.

It is also possible some dirt some how got on the sides of your lense. Try cleaning the sides of the lense.

If you had no luck so far, then your lense may have some mechanical problem. The lense need to be opened and cleaned and put back together.

When the battery dies, usually the camera will retract the lens if possible. If the battery is so dead the lens can not retract, I would recommend trying to charge or change the battery. Or try to turn the camera on, and then manually shutting it off if you can.

Had similar problems with a DSC-P93 and found av clue to a solution on the internet: Change to new batteries, the original Sony Ni-Mh 2100 mAh seems to have gone really bad!

It sound like a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
