A white screen on an iPod Touch is the sign of a generic error, meaning you won't get a specific error message. Usually when this happens the white screen won't change and the iPod is frozen on that screen. Apple Support outlines a specific series of steps to take to deal with this problem, from turning the iPod Touch off to completely reinstalling the operating system if necessary.
What the White Screen Means The white screen is a sign that a software error has occurred in the iPod Touch. Unless you received an error message first, it's usually something near the root level of the iPod's operating system that caused the iPod to cease functioning normally. Rather than shut off completely, it goes to this white screen to let you know there's been an error. Unfortunately you usually lose unsaved information when this occurs. b> Resetting b> Try turning the iPod Touch off, then on again. This is the simplest way to reset your iPod Touch. If it remains stuck on the white screen, force a reset by holding down the Sleep button (top right corner) for about 10 seconds. The screen will go dark, then the Apple logo will appear. If it turns off and doesn't turn on again, the battery may be too low. b> Restore b> If a manual reset doesn't work and the screen remains stuck on a white screen, you'll need to restore the iPod to reinstall its operating system. Plug your iPod, via its charger cable, into your computer. Open iTunes and click on your iPod, then the "Restore" button on the main screen. b> Problematic Apps b> If you consistently receive a white screen while using a particular app, the app may be faulty or installed incorrectly. Try re-syncing the app to your iPod Touch and see if that solves the problem. Otherwise, you may need to delete the app to avoid the white screen problem. b>

Do a hard reset on your phone... then put the simcard back into the slot. I use anHTC touch elf too... even though the operator logo did not appear but my cell phone does not gives any problem now...
what model you are using? please provide more information and how exact it went like this?
if you can hear sound from your phone even in white display, that means you have to change display (sometime flex cable inside it)
if you can't hear sound, then it can be solved through software service point (normally repairer can do this)
It appears to be a sleep state that the phone enters into. How, I do not know. If your iphone/ipod touch screen is pure white...here's a simple fix, gaurantee to work. Hold the power button, and the home button, and the apple logo will appear....release both buttons, phone will resume back to normal.
i dont know if this will work but tyou can try to do a master reset.
1. turn phone off
2. remove memory and sim cards
3. push and hold up button and turn phone on while holding.
4. it will ask if you want to reset. yes.
if this does not work then the display is probably bad.
let me know if this works by posting a reply.

Here is how to hard-reset your MDA/Wizard using a key combo - courtesy of a smart T-Mobile tech support help desk guy who wrote a note about it as it's not in official help doc's:
1. Simultaneously hold down the Communication Manager and Voice Dial buttons and put the Soft Reset 'button' with the stylus tip - all at the same time.
2. You see a very scary looking black screen with white letters in System font reading something along the lines of ?Are You Sure? Press Send key to continue.?
3. When you push the 'Send' key, the Green pick-up the phone key process starts
4. Next you will see what made me smile like a kid - Formatting FAT partition and very briefly in matter of few seconds began normal first boot.
how to reset?
