Hard Drive isn't recognized when it is connected to the computer
I just got the Sandisk Firelite a few months ago and it was working fine, until I tried to delete a rather large file. It first said the trash was empty, but there were still a few files left in the trash. Now it is not being recognized by either my Macbook or my boyfriend's Macbook. The light does come on when it is connected and under "About this Mac" it is listed in the USB section, but it never appears on the desktop even after 20 minutes. Help!
Same problem on the MAC.. Accidently closed the computer and now it will not show up on the desktop. Is there a replacement driver available to replace the lost software? I have tried to "mount" it through the utility, but it says there is a problem and will not repair or verify disk...

change data cable and try again. and check the drive is detected by computer OS. in widows platform try system manage or in ubuntu try fdisk -l on terminal
There are a few possible causes for that. Here is an article on troubleshooting external hard disk problems: http://www.devicedriverfinder.com/blog/device-errors/external-hard-drive-troubleshooting
I had this problem a few months ago. Here is how you fix it.
Just follow these steps.
Go to:
Control panel
Administrative tools
Computer management
Storage
Disc management
Now you should see your drive in the virtual schematic below.
Just right click on the drive click on change drive letter and assign a new drive letter.
1st try a different computers make sure its not your Hard drive! 2nd if that works then go to the hard drive maker and download a software driver for it that should fix the problem
The first and simple thing to do is to try a different data cable and see if it works. If it doesn't work then may be it has crashed and you can probably recover it using a recover tool like Recoversoft Data data rescue Pc. Th trial version will let you determine whether you can recover or not. If the differnt cable thing wont work then let me know and i will walk you thru the data recovery process using Recoversoft Data data rescue Pc.
the home computer has a small chip onits mother board called disk controller. its this controller which recognises it.so the software driver is corrupt and needs reinstallation or the hard ware controller is faulty.
Ok same situation happened to me i dropped my Firelite 80Gig, drive would spin no light and the computer would not recognize the drive. All I did was open the case an saw the the internal hardrive had come loose from its pin connection. So all i did was pushed it back in and BAM now it works, hope this helps other people. Thanks C.J.
Make sure that there is no "HD protection", in which the hard drive can only be connected to one computer. Also, try going to google and searching for some drivers for your computer to download and install. Then try plugging your hard drive in again.
