When you turn it on and go into the menu and the picture is still Halfed then you need to take it back and exchange it. If the menu fully appears the try unhooking the HDMI unplug it wait a minute plug it in hook up a device see it that helps.
Sounds like "closed captioning" or other information mode has been setup on your TV, slect " Menu" on your remote and go through initial set up or options to see what has been set up change it. If there is a default option or factory setting available select that.
This is a problem with closed-captioning. What you are seeing is a closed captioning box with no captioning in it. Usually this is being accidentally transmitted by the cable company "head end". Just make sure your closed captioning function is completely turned off. if you are seeing it randomly, it may well be coming from your cable company. Is it just on certain channels?
This sound like a problem with the Closed Caption, on many sets if the C.C. is set to text a black box apears, and since it only happens on DVD you might look at the DVD menu and see if it has this Text featcher in the Closed Caption menu and turn it off
check captions on your menu settings it has caption 1 and 2 if it is not set on caption it could be on text which cause the black box to come on the screen turn off every thing on the caption menu.if that does not work then take you set to a tech to have it reset then it could be your eprom or your video circuit.good luck.
It sounds as you desribe, the vertical output IC and or the b+ feed capacitor off the Hi voltage transformer feeding the vert. IC its required voltage. Not a really hard job to replace, but not for a handi person to do. This should be left to the professional, as there are no user serviceable parts inside this set and with the HI voltage and the safety issues its best to call somesone to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
