Question about D-Link Platinum RangeBooster N DWA-642 (DWA642) Pre-802.11n Wireless Adapter
Hi. I'm really new to all this, and would love some help. My 11-year-old son has a Compaq Presario V2000. My ex-husband had set him up with a D-Link RangeBooster DWA-642. It worked perfectly for a long time. Within the last month, websites have been dropping off like flies. First, Runescape wouldn't connect fully. We could see the main background screen, but the page wouldn't load fully. Next, Google wouldn't load fully. While all this is going on, other webpages were loading just fine. Gradually other websites are not loading completely, and others wouldn't show miscellaneous things that were always on-screen before. I tried everything that I could think of, but I'm not too familiar with routers and wireless networks. (It looks like we have a D-Link Router DI 634M.) Does anyone have any ideas? I'm starting to worry, and my son is very sad and frustrated... Thanks!
Hi, Based on your post/description, there could possibly be 3 sources of your problem: 1. Your ISP maybe at fault. Give them a call and discuss your problem with them, check what they have to say. Specifically ask how's their DNS Server and what are there numbers; 2. Your son's Compaq Presario V2000 may have been compromised. Do a disk cleanup, specifically the cookies, temporary internet files and other temporary files; run your antivirus for a full scan; run an anti-spyware software such as Ad-Aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) to scan your system for ad-supported software components and remove them. You can also try hovering over the Wifi Networking icon in the system tray to display the Signal Strength, Signal Quality & Connection Speed. Another thing you can do is right click on the same icon and click Repair; and 3. Restart (not reset) your D-Link Router DI 634M. (It is possible somebody else is connected to your router and hugging the bandwidth, the WEP and/WPA security are acting up) Hope the above give you some ideas and workout for you, if not pls post back with results and info. You may also need to get the following information: Compaq Presario V2000 IP Address, SubNet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS Address (right click on the WiFi Networking icon, Status, Support, Details), the MAC number of the D-Link RangeBooster DWA-642 (Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt. Type without the quotes "ipconfig /all". Look for "Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection", record the Physical Address which should look something like 00-56-A3-XX-8C-BP or 00:56:A3:XX:8C:BP. Also see if you can get your WAN IP numbers from your ISP. Good luck and kind regards.

Ok this sounds like a perplexing problem indeed... as a work around for now, I suggest that you download and install Firefox... www.firefox.com also get Opera www.opera.com Download these two alternate "Browsers" and install them ... I often find that when one browser will not work, often one of the "Others" will. You may actually find you prefer either or both of these over Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) It is possible that you may have a virus or malware... ensure you thoroughly check your system. Also if you haven't got IE7, please upgrade that too. Also in IE7 reset it to it's default settings, look at the web site below.. support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/936213 support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

I am connected to the internet for a while, then i check network and sharing center and it shows as if im not connected to the internet. If i was using an internet thing such as a game or skype call for example they remain fine when i see its disconnected. Though i can't load anything else that uses internet like a webpage or video or etc when i see that occuring. Its a little fustrating cause it happens every now and then and the internet itself seems fine.
