put batteries in right position but does not work

I put in four new AA batteries, and the unit would not turn on. It had been sitting in a closet for years prior to this happening. I was working fine the last time I used it. I made sure all contacts were clean of any dirt or obstructions, but unit will still not turn on.

Reset the drum count on a brother intellifax 2800.

Drum counter is reset by installing a new drum which contains a specifically designed "starter sheet" that is passed through the machine when it is installed, and triggers the paper sensors in a specific pattern, resetting the electronic counter.
If you have installed a new drum and the message remains......I suspect that it was a remanufactured unit that did not include the "starter sheet" Is that the case?

Using a vivitar 2800 flash on a nikon d60

The old series Vivitar 2800 flashgun has a very high trigger Voltage, that can damage your D60's circuitry. Even measuring the trigger voltage with a voltmeter is not a solution since you can't rely on the voltmeter to indicate the peak voltage.

Vivitar 2800

1 Does it give the normal little charge up whine when you turn it on?

2 Are the battery terminals clean?

3. Double check with new out of the packet top quality Duracel or Energiser batteries. Don't waste your time testing anything like this with mediocre or average batteries.

4. If you have to ask if you could fit new capacitors yourself, the answer is DEFINITELY NOT. These caps are not like on a computer motherboard: These can stop your heart.

5 Some of the big camera shops can give you a free repair quote, or if not will deduct the cost of a declined quote from the price of a new flash.

Anyway, good luck.

I'd like to know if I can use a Vivitar 2800 flash in a Nikon D80 safely. I've been using it, without any problem, but read that maybe this flash can be dangerous to the D80 and I want to be sure. Thanks.

Yeah Rolo, I read that too. I would put a slave unit on your Vivitar, and the Master would be the pop up unit on the camera. Not only will you save risking your camera with the voltage of the flash, but your pictures will be better too. I use Aperture Priority on the camera and AUTO on the Vivitar set to the same aperture
Best regards,

John

My unit has power, but it won't turn on at all.

This means that something is seriously wrong with the unit(blown amp, shorts, opens, etc.) however, you can reset the unit by unplugging the unit, holding the A and B channel buttons on the face of the unit and plugging in the reciever. the display should flash at 1 second intervals. if it doesn't stop flashing on its own then unplug and replug and you should be good to go! good luck.
