Re:
I do apologize for the inconvenience, the best way that i can tell you to fix the light is that there is a tiny pin hole on top of the unit. that's a reset button. you need a small needle or something that will fit in there. hold it down for about 3 seconds. your unit should reset. the light sometimes comes on with new filters cause it hasn't recognized that they are new yet. if that reset doens't work please let me know

Have you cleaned out the removable filters?
also the red light at the bottom indicates the time to clean the filters.
to reset it, use a paper clip. The red light on the bottom right is the filter indicator light, what looks like it should be a light beside that filter light, is actually a reset button, just poke it with a paper clip for a few seconds to reset. The bottom red light goes out

Filter Replacement Filter Replacement Indicator: Your DefenderĀ® is equipped with a Filter Replacement Indicator located on the front panel. Anytime this red indicator flashes, it is recommended that you call your authorized FILTERQUEENĀ® Distributor to order a replacement filter. Anytime this red indicator stops flashing and remains solidly illuminated, it is recommended that you change your filter. To receive full benefit from your DefenderĀ® and to extend your warranty, it is strongly recommended that you follow the filter replacement schedule suggested above. Under higher pollution levels, your filters will need to be replaced more frequently. The Filter Replacement Indicator is operated by filter time in use and is controlled by an onboard timer. After 11 months of time in use of your Medi-FilterĀ® Cartridge, the Filter Replacement Indicator will begin to flash. It will continue to flash until the you reach 12 months of time in use, at which time the Filter Replacement Indicator will stop flashing and remain solidly illuminated. After replacement of your Medi-FilterĀ® Cartridge, you must reset the Filter Replacement Indicator's timer. When the timer has been properly reset, the Filter Replacement Indicator will turn off. Resetting the Filter Replacement Indicator Timer: After replacement of your Medi-FilterĀ® Cartridge per the instructions found on page 7, the Filter Replacement Indicator's timer can be reset by performing the following sequence of steps: 1Plug unit into outlet. 2Press power On/Off switch to the On ("I") position. 3Allow unit to start running at low speed. 4PRESS and HOLD both the Up and Down arrow buttons until the Filter Replacement Indicator starts to blink. 5 Release both the Up and Down arrow buttons. 6 While the Filter Replacement Indicator is still flashing*, again PRESS and HOLD both the Up and Down arrow buttons until the Filter Replacement Indicator turns off. If the steps above have been performed properly, the Filter Replacement Indicator will turn off and not flash again for 11 months. If the Filter Replacement Indicator remains on, repeat the steps again. *Note that in step 6 above, the Filter Replacement Indicator MUST still be flashing when the buttons are pressed the second time. The Filter Replacement Indicator will continue to flash for approximately 3 seconds after the buttons are released as required in step 5 above. I have a Bionaire tower air filter model BAP1700 that I bought from Costco. The filter check LED came on recently after 5 months of use. After cleaning the Permatech filters, I tried every remedy on this website including following the instructions that say push power button for 2 secs. Nothing worked. Then I noticed a tiny hole on the control panel in front of clean filter LED; I pushed a paper clip pin into that hole, felt a click, held it down and 2 secs later, LED went out. Success!
When the red light is blinking, press and hold both up and down arrows until the red light blinks RAPIDLY, release both for a second or two, and press and hold both again until it stops blinking. It cured my problem.
I owned the previous model of the same unit with the hole for the paperclip. But it wore out and I replaced it with the HAP422 and found the same issue; no hole to "reset" the light. I was just fooling with it and determined that "some" switch would reset it and finally held the power on button on for a few seconds, after which, the red light flashed and then went out. Problem solved. BUT THERE IS NOT ONE WORD IN THE MANUAL TO TELL YOU THIS! WHY NOT?
Red light stays on
I also replace the filters and the red light still continue to appear. What should I do? Let it be??
same thing. followed instructions to reset and didn't work. I just know the hepa's are new and run the damn thing
I had the same problem, but THANK YOU mmcqueen, it was solved when I did reset it. Didn't know anything about that before I read your posting. Thanks again :-)
