MY monitor is very distorted.

This monitor is only 4 months old and is all of a sudden not working properly. All of the colors seem to be fading and are a diferent color than they should be. Very cartoonish looking images when looking at pictures. My toolbar is light blue and is doing a weird shimmering thing. Is ther anything I can do to fix this?

Thank you very much! That was a simple solution, and I'll remember that in the future.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the cables. Sometimes this is a cable connection issue.

I have a Xerox Phaser 8400 with image problems. After power up it prints a Startup Page - That page is black text which faded and slightly distorted in some areas and in areas that are in Color only...

What you are describing is a bad print head. You can try running the eliminate light stripes several times, and jet substitution, but most likely the print head will have to be replaced to remedy your problem.
You can try googling. Phaser printer print heads or phaser printheads.
There seems to be a secondary market appearing for those print heads. I can tell you from Xerox, if you have no maintenance agreement, they cost $750 per print head.
Honestly, having worked on about every type of color printer known to man, the new solid ink phaser printers, produce a dry ink image of 2400 x 2400 dpi with ink particles that align end to end. The resolution of those printers are remarkable and can be purchased for less than the price of one of those new print heads.
Now for reliable, albeit somewhat not as sharp a color image, but still exceptional, you really can not beat an HP.
The ink stick technology really no longer has the color vividness advantage it initially had. The inks that align end to end, have ended that advantage and are sure a lot cheaper to operate per page.

Color fades at bottom of screen

Although it is possible that your monitor is defect, you should first run a monitor test to see if you just need to adjust some of the settings. Go to this webpage and just follow the instructions.
The test are done best in full screen mode (F11 in most browsers).

Do you have any sources of magnetic fields next to the monitor (speakers, halogen lights, sometimes even a cordless phone can cause distortion).

If you can, connect this monitor to another computer and see if the problem persists. This way you eliminate any hardware related issues (cable, video card).

If you have any more questions (also regarding the results) come back here and leave a comment. I will check back and see what else we can do.

Flickering Screen/Faded Colors

It sounds like a problem with the video card, whether it be on-board or a card. See if you or a friend has a spare one laying around and try that one instead. If it's not the video card, try a different monitor.

Diagonal RGB lines

It might just need degaussing. If the monitor is equipped with a degauss button, try pressing it. If not, it might eventually go away with time - sometimes when CRT monitors are moved and change orientations odd color distortions due to magnetic fields result. After a while the magnetic field fades and the colors will be back to normal.

Otherwise, upgrade to an LCD - easier on the eyes, and a lot easier on the back. :)
