A pot lid shattered in my dishwasher, causing glass to get caught in the pump filter housing and pump base. After researching on here and several other sites, I was able to disassemble the lower wash arm and impeller to remove all the glass pieces. I reassembled all the pieces as they were, and the wash cycle ran without any abnormal noises. Once the water began to drain, water poured from the inside bottom of the door. I checked to ensure the seal (#7 in the diagram on the link below) was intact, however found no visible problems. Any assistance or insight on what might have caused this problem would be greatly appreciated. newbury, the screen should set in the grooves on the bottom. The chopper blade that fits on the shaft should have a small hub that fits over it. If you look on the housing cover (inlet protector) you will see a channel that slides over the end of the chopper blade shaft. This secures the chopper in place. Catriver.

Without the model number of your Maytag number, I can not determine if when you order a wash pump motor you also get the impeller.
Sounds like you are on the right path to getting your dishwasher to wash dishes again.
Oh, while you have the dishwasher open, check that the heating element has not failed using a Multimeter.
Good Luck!

OK, that piece of glass may have jammed the wash impeller. this will destroy the motor windings. you will need to gain access to the circulation motor asap.the impeller is attached to the motor that is housed within the pump casing(upper). try to manually move the impeller. if its stuck, try ot remove the obstruction.
It is possible that, the motor is already damaged to the point of no return. in this case, replace the circulation motor. your drain pump should be ran by a totally separate motor(wax).
**NOTE
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller,
takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the
water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the
dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

Actually, I believe I have fixed the problem. I did not reattach the panel and toe panel during the drain cycle (to ensure no leaks under the dishwasher). After reattaching those and running through rinse and drain cycles, there were no leaks.
