Question about Metrologic Instruments 9520 Voyager
Hi, I just bought a Metrologic 9520 bar-code laser scanner. Everytime I scan a bar-code (I've tried many different bar-codes from different products) the scanner beeps once and turns the flashing green light into a fixed red light and it stops scanning. In the installation guide it says that that means that the scanner is waiting for the host to return confirmation or something similar. Do I need to configure anything prior to use? In the store the seller told me that the scanner came out-of-the-box with a preset configuration which would work fine. I've tried disabling and enabling the different bar-code standards scanning the configuration bar-codes from the configuration guide. When I scan the bar-codes in the configuration guide, the scanner works fine. If I try any other bar-code, the scanner blocks and I have to unplug it and plug it in again. The software which I'm using for my clothing store admits bar-codes, butIt doesn't receive any information. Any help, please? I'm in a hurry!! Javier Chico
The metrologic scanner you are talking about has a barcode in the maual under the keyboard wedge section it is called stand alone keyboard this will cure your problem when you scan it. the reason being it fools the scanner into thinking there is a keyboard connected. hope this helps Pete

Is doesn't sound like a problem with the Barcode scanner itself, this sounds like it may be a driver issue, the scanner will power up and scan barcodes with only the power connected, however it is the drivers and associated software that channels the data from the device into the system, I reccomend that you check "Device Manager" for anything listed under "other devices" load the drivers from the driver disk that came with the device or download updated drivers from the manufacturers website

ah... I see... This kind of device is known as a Keyboard Wedge, no drivers are required, her it needs to be plugged in to the keyboard port, as well as your keyboard (plugging it into the mouse port will not work), usually ther is either a y-cable or a special T-piece whyou use to plug this and your keyboard in to the same PS2 port.
I thought you had the usb type....
I hope this clarifies
Hmm, not sure exactly how to do this one,
If you plug a PS2 keyb into the port and use the y-connector this may work, but then you are lugging a keyboard about with you too, I am fairly certain that it needs a keyboard to be connected for a keyboard wedge to work (as the computer needs to detect the keyboard),
The easiest way around this prob may be just to buy the USB cable, (as keyboard wedges are tricky to get working especially on a laptop)
Metrologic part code is MX009
you will have to ensure that the Drivers are installed correctly (as previously stated) for use on USB.
on a further thought, (I was looking at data for another scanner)
If you have the programming sheet, there is an item called KEYBOARD EMULATION, if you set this to on the scanner pretends to be a keyboard, so this may be a solution if your scanner is capable of this

Thanks for the answer, but this barcode scanner comes with no drivers. In Metrologic's web site, there is no drivers for this item. Even, in the installation guide thre is no mention to the driver.
I'm using a laptop computer to host the application. It only has one PS2 port, could that has something to do with the problem?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Javier Chico
Could someone tell me how could I solve this problem? The laptop only has one ps2 port. How could I make that port only for keyboard so that the scanner works fine.
Thanks in advance,
Javier Chico
