My Combo drive does not detect any CD's.. but reads DVD's.

Surely its the problem wtih the lens. try using a lens cleaner. the try flushing it wiht air. then try upgrading the bios from webiste. then lastly change the lens

There are separate lasers for CD reading, and for DVD reading. This is why it is possible to have a drive that reads only CDs but not DVDs, or the other way around. And your particular combo unit seems to have a lot of these problems. Since the drive doesn't work it's almost definitely a problem with the drive itself (I'm assuming that there is nothing wrong with the discs you tried to read). If that drive is still covered by a warranty period, send it back for repairs. Otherwise, I can't see the harm in trying to tinker with it yourself as the DVD portion of it is dead anyways. Ummm, on a side note...CompUSA is going out of business and they are selling things cheap. I got a DVD lightscribe burner for $40...booyah!

The lens for reading dvd is busted and needs to be replaced that is why it no longer read dvd.

regarding you problem try to insert another dvd there might be a possibility that you combo drive is very sensitive that not able to read scratched disc or pirated cd.

I am having trouble burning to a DVD-RW,it does not recognise the disc I have in the drive,it keeps asking for a DVD-R-RW, what is the solution, thanks , Graeme

The LG GCC4522B CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive is NOT a DVD BURNER.
It is a "combo" drive, which means that it can only READ DVD+/- discs and READ/WRITE CD's.
There is no firmware upgrade or any other modification that can convert your combo drive to a DVD burner.

It seems that what you have is a combo drive only :(
it only recognize DVD reading. no matter what driver you used. need to buy a dvd writer/ that said can write dvd.

DVD not getting detected

Hi, i have LG GCC4522B CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive and my problem is that i could open & play CDs. However when i insert DVD the drive doesn't detect the DVD and it shows no DVD in drive or blank. I checked the region setting which is 1. Is it the problem of region setting if so is there any solution for this. Expecting your valuable solution in this regard.
