Question about Technics RS-TR575 Single Dual Cassette Deck

1 Answer

Tape is slow and whirring noise

Hi there, this otherwise fine player developped all of a sudden a strange whirring noise when charging the tape and speed is slightly below par. By opening the box I fond what seemed to be a very very small piece of white plastic moving around. Any idea someone? Thanks

Alex somebody technical will have to look at what is wrong with your deck. What is the shape of this piece of plastic I tried to service a Nakamichi the other day and the reason for the deck to burn one of the motors from a sticker that was used for the identification and it jammed the mechanism up. It sound as if there is a part from the Pause control if this is one of the units in those made in China after about 1990

SOURCE: SANSUI SC-2100 RECORDING PROBLEM

First try cleaning the heads with some electronics grade alcohol and a static free cleaning swab...although it sounds like the head may need alignment...if those two things do not work out for you, the capstan motor might be the culprit.

SOURCE: The tape recorder records well but does not run at standard speed

You don't say if it has developed this fault or if you have recently purchased it.
However the likely causes are that an electrical fault is causing a reduced voltage to the motor. Or if you have just got the machine somebody has adjusted the speed of the machine.
Some decks have one motor for both decks. On the base of the motor might be a slot. Inside will be a 'pot' that will adjust the speed. You will need a small screwdriver flat head type, to adjust, the playback speed.
Sometimes the speed adjust pot will be on the PC board. If your lucky the board will be marked! If not follow the leads of the motor to the board.
Sometimes the person who repaired the deck fits the wrong motor! I had one where they had fitted a 9 volt instead of a 12 volt motor. The motor at top speed could still not get up to what it needed to be!

Hi.
Why is my VHS tape playing fast?"); display: inline-block; height: 24px; width: 24px; margin-top: -1px; transform: rotateZ(-180deg);"> If you have a VHS video tape that's playing too quickly then it's very likely that the player you are using does not support either LP or SLP. SLP capable video players should automatically detect the mode and adjust automatically.

I have 2 and neither will play a tape. When you press play both make a strange noise

Is it the same tape every time or all tapes? If it is all tapes then it's more than likely a belt issue. The tape players have little rubber belts inside they sometimes get stretched when they are used alot. And they will make a whinning sound. They can be replaced.

Since no repair parts or repair manuals are made available to the consumer by GM then you must remove the deck from the dash and send it in for repair at a factory approved repair center.

Blocks of noise

Don't know about the slow motion, but the noise is usually from dirty heads. Just like a cassette player it needs them cleaned periodically. Dip a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol and rub over the entire path the tape takes. You'll see a little block that actually reads the tape. Thats what you need to clean.

Make sure you eject the tape and remove the battery while the tape drive is open to clean it. Rubbing alcohol dries fast but give it an extra ten minutes and check it again.

Video recorder while the heads were dirty will not change however new video should be clean.

You may also have a bent tape carrier that is putting your video off track. It needs to be pushed or pulled to realign it.

It it's not the cause though, this can make playing back the earlier tapes more difficult since they will read and record in a slightly different part of the tape.

Good luck!

Tape plays too fast on slowest setting

The tapes may have been recorded at 1/2 speed or 1/4 speed so they are not playable on this model.
