Hello ldrpc

Take a look at the Service Manual page 42. I have to leave for work in a few minutes. I can attach a pic of mine later today if you need. Are you throwing dc/UC errors did you do this check?

1. Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check.
It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.

3a. Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

3b. Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

3c. Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

3d. Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

3e. Press Hand Wash.

3f. Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). If you receive these results your Tub Displacement sensor should be OK and I believe it’s not the component failure producing dc/UC errors in spin cycle. I would remove the clutch for inspection and re-lube. There is a more technical troubleshooting method to check Tub Displacement Sensor in the Troubleshooting guide and Service manual. Rich

What's the purpose of the tub displacement sensor

To detect excessive wash tub movement and shut down the wash cycle. Here is a copy of my post from a real DIY forum;

Google this Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW 5 post down.

Here ya go.....in this post I discuss the issue related to unbalance error codes DC and UC;

Your FAV6800A or FAV9800A is going off balance with DC or UC unbalance error codes during spin cycle and you see/hear the wash tub banging around at the start of Spin Cycle of the wash cycle or a Spin Only cycle. If this is the condition the TDS (Tub Displacement Sensor) is working as designed and signaling the Control Board properly of an unbalance wash load condition.

The Control Board receives a varying D.C . Voltage from the TDS sensor and if the out of range D.C. Voltage limit continues the Control Board will halt the Spin Cycle and try to redistribute the wash load. If you are interested I will show you how to monitor the TDS input to the Control Board with a DVM.

The Control Board then starts the Spin Cycle again. If the wash tub/basket out of balance condition continues the Control Board will attempt another redistribute of the wash load. After several attempts (4 to 5 I believe) the Control Board will shut down the Spin Cycle and send a error code DC or UC to the LED display of the FAV6800A, my machine type. And I believe a text statement to the LCD screen of the FAV9800A machine i.e. something like "Unbalance Condition" I'm not sure what the text message is.

If you need help open a post in that repair forum and I will try help you through your issue.

My Maytag Neptune TL FAV6800AW Washing Machine is receiving the dC error code on every load. It sits at 12 minutes remaining and attempts to spin several times before throwing the codes.

Hello zacas6,

dC/uC unbalance errors are caused almost all the time by a Clutch malfunction. Take a look this post and see if you want to DIY the repair. I will help you through the process.

I would also check the Tub Displacement Sensor. This a thru the lid check and you get a feel of how to enter Service Mode.

I have some additional info if you decide to remove the Clutch in the machine if you are going to DIY.

I Have a Neptune HE TL fav6800aww and it keeps giving me the DC error code which i understand is a balance code but i emptied the washer and ran it and still get the code?

hris,

The FAV9800AW the dc/UC errors are caused by a clutch malfunction.

Your machine is shutting down with those errors so your Tub Displacement Sensor is working as designed.

Fix the Clutch malfunction and you can wash a single sock or a load of blue jeans and you will not take the dc or UC unbalance errors. See this post for the fix.

It is a tight work area but if you are handy you can get away with a re-lube of the One-Way rollre clutches in the clutch pully you could be working today. If you need to replace tthe clutch I recommend a $60 clutch. Call in a repair service and you are looking at around $300. I will help you thru the process.

Post back if you have questions or need help.

Problems spinning

If it’s a FAV6800AW or FAV8900AW and you want to DIY a fix take a look at this post and see if you or someone you know has some very basic mechanical skills and can do a clutch replacement or roller clutch bearing re-lube. The dc/UC unbalance errors are a very common failure issue with the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW clutch.

I have put together a step by step process to perform a clutch replacement process, this repair will get your $1000 machine back in service with a $50 dollar clutch replacement. Worse case you can give the repair person some facts and maybe control cost and speed to repair. I believe you will find you will pay $300 - $400 to have it repaired.

If you pay more than $50 dollars for the clutch you are throwing money away. Clothes Washer Clutch - 25001169
You can try this test just to rule out the TDS as the failure point almost all the time dc/UC unbalance errors are related to clutch issues with this machine model.

We can turn on the drain pump in Service Mode to pump out excess water, let me know if you need help with that. The link I have in this post will send you to the Service Manual on this site in PDF format .

I believe a lot of folks toss this $1K machine when a $50 dollar clutch replacement or an even cheaper a Oneway roller clutch bearing clean up (if the bearings are rust free) will get the machine back in service.
Post back if you decide to DIY the fix and need help.

Not happy with Maytag Neptune TL Washer

I assume you are taking dc/UC errors to the console. This is a classic problem with the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW after the 3yr to 5 yr mark. I own the machine and decided to learn what was involved to repair the machine. Take a look at this post and see if will give you some insight to a DIY fix to resolve the unbalance errors. No fix for the tumbler action of twisting up the clothes. After a re-lube of the one-way roller clutch bearing I could wash a single pair of socks or over load the wash basket with bath towels and extra water in the tub with no unbalance errors (dc/UC).

Shout back if you have any questions.

Here is a quick test for the TSD sensor but I believe you have a clutch issue. The TDS test is in the SM I’ve typed it out if you want to give a quick check. I’m sure you will pass and find the one-way roller clutch berings are dry/rusted and causing the dc/UC unbalance condition.

Check for 12 Volts DC input voltage between the ground and the board output. Only check for voltage at the Tub Displacement Sensor. Do not perform a continuity check. I have an 2002 Maytag Neptune TL (FAV6800A) that won't spin. I replaced the clutch about a month ago. Worked great until now with same problem. Replaced clutch again, but won't work. Received advice from...

Hey Nick,

“”Received advice from one of your experts that it was a resistor problem w/instructions to fix. Opened my machine up and the mother board does not match””

That’s not the way I troubleshoot. Did you pull out the troubleshooting guide out of the console, while you had it open it’s good to have the schematic that’s all that advice was good for.

Do you take any errors to the display such as dc/UC while the wash cycle moves into spin cycle? If you run a Spin Only Cycle with no clothes in the wash basket will it complete the cycle? Does the wash basket spin at all in Spin Only cycle? If it does have you done a Tub Displacement Sensor check? I us this quick check to rule it out.
