Sending fax displays comm.error

There are many things that can interfere with proper sending of faxes. Has anything changed in your office recently? Phones changed? Did you recently get DSL service from your phone provider? If so, you probably need a DSL filter on the line going to your fax machine. Try faxing to different faxes to make sure that it is not the person you are sending to that has the problem. If you are using Voice Over IP or VOIP phone, good luck, as older fax modems do not always play nice and you will likley need to speak with your VOIP provider to ensure they have their lines configured. If nothing has changed in your office then perhaps your modem has just failed, it does happen. A new cord between the jack and the machine is a a cheap test as well. If you have a telephone, unplug the fax and plug in the phone and see if you can make a call.

We have a FAX-2820. this is a dumb question, but does the fax header line come from the sender when we are receiving the fax? Does a header go out on any fax we would send out?

Yes, The fax header should show you who sent the fax to you. Every fax is supposed to have a terminal ID (senders fax number and Name)

If you are able to access the fax menu, you should be able to change a number of parameters including the number display of the sender. Good luck.

Program sending address on brother mfc-6800

The settings should be able to be changed one of two ways. Either under fax settings on the printers menu, or under fax settings under the printer properties panel on the computer.

Got new hp elite m9402f computer but new hp fax doesnt answer

hi there,

initially you have to check and correct this few settings.

To receive a fax manually

1. Make sure the device is turned on and you have paper loaded in the main tray.

2. Remove any originals from the document feeder tray.

3. Set the Rings to Answer setting to a high number to allow you to answer the
incoming call before the device answers. Or, turn off the Auto Answer setting so
that the device does not automatically answer incoming calls.

4. If you are currently on the phone with the sender, instruct the sender to press Start on their fax machine.

5. When you hear fax tones from a sending fax machine, do the following:

a. Press the left arrow or the right arrow to select Fax B&W or Color fax.
b. Press Start.
c. After the device begins to receive the fax, you can hang up the phone or remain on the line. The phone line is silent during fax transmission.

Hope this initial info helps you.

I have never had a problem with my fax machine until recently. All of a sudden, the machine rings and rings when a fax is trying to come in; it will show call pickup; to receive the fax, I have to pick up...

The machine has probably been taken off of auto-answer. You can download the manual from Brother's website here:

http://www.brother-usa.com/manuals/default.aspx?ProductID=PPF2800&ProductGroupID=2&WT.cg_n=Support&WT.cg_s=Manuals

Then you can verify it's set up properly. If the problem is due to some failure in the fax machine (always possible) you can find service options on Brother's site as well.

Fax will only send and not receive

Call your fax machine from a regular phone and listen for fax tones. Sender may be dialing the wrong number. Is your phone line DSL?
