Lg 42" plasma

It may be that your cable box is outputting at a resolution your TV doesn't recognise or doesn't support. Do you have any other connection you can use from your cable box to your TV to check the settings?

Randomly says 'Component' and screen goes black when watching movies.

you gave very little info to go on. are you using component connection? if so check the green connection for loose or broken cable/connector. or replace the component cable with a new one. if you are using HDMI check for loose connections or replace the HDMI cable

When I turn the tv on the screen lights up for a few seconds and then there's a clicking sound and the screen goes black

ours would do that i wont guarntee this will work but try using a different connection like we had a HDMI cord running to our cable box and one day it just went black so i unplugged the tv and still had the other componet wires hooked up to the box i thought it was the cable box so i tried another one and switched the input on my tv and it worked after a few days i could use the HDMI connection again not sure y but hopefully this is what your problem is.

Ghosting problems with a Samsung-LN32B360

I think your cable box is old version together with weak signal caused this problem. I guess you are using coaxial cable hooked up to the TV at TV cable input jack.
At the TV there are some better quality inputs which are real digital transmission (audio and video) HDMI and components (digital video and analog audio).
The most simple and best quality is HDMI provided the box has HDMI output.
Secondly is component inputs. There are 5 cable trends in which 3 of them (red, blue, green) for video and the rest 2 are for audio (red , white). The cable box should have same color accordingly as ouput. Please note that the color must be matched otherwise you will see the screen has one color only.
Playing a DVD player to see picture good or not. If picture is good, TV has no problem at all.

Screen goes off

disconnect the cable going in to the DVD/VCR combo and see if that clears up the issue

or else

Try connecting your cable box to the TV with component cables (green, blue, red) instead of HDMI/DVI. It sounds as if it is a HDMI or HDMI/HDCP related issue and component video would eliminate the issue.

I am trying to connect an akai dvd player to directv, please help

ruettab,

good day. to connect your any DVD player to any TV screen always remember this color code

from DVD back part:

yellow = video out

red/blue/green( in a row) = component video out ( this can only be used for screen with component video inputs)

Black = digital audio ( rarely use unless)
Red and white (in a row) = Audio output (left and right audio)

where to connect from TV screen.

Locate where A/V INPUTS (audio/video socket) from your TV screen, you can see it either at the BACK/SIDE or somtimes in FRONT of TV screen , having marked as "AV1"AV2"AV3' .

Once you found TV input, you must first have RCA cable (color code cable to connect player to screen) then connect the RCA cable at the back of your DVD player, simply follow color code

RCA yellow marked cable = DVD yellow socket
RCA RED and WHITE marked cable = DVD RED and white socket (second row for your player)

then connect the other end of the RCA cable to TV screen, first select which input where you gonna place the DVD player ( either AV1, Av2 or Av3 if do have multiple inputs)

once decided which INPUT to connect the player.
ex. if you select AV1 as input there would be 3socket on its row (yellow/red/white)

now connect the other end of RCA cable to the screen by following the same color code:

RCA yellow cable = TV screen A/V1 input yellow socket
RCA RED and White = TV screen A/V1 input red and white socket.

cheers,
mark

Screen flicker when watching 1080i

Component video has a max resolution of 720p. in order to use 1080i or p you have to use hdmi or dvi connections. That is why you get the flicker.
