Light flickers when dimmer switch isn't ''just right''

I installed a Hunter brand dimmer switch (model 27182) to control a Hamptoon Bay Ceiling fan and Light Kit. The kit came with two Compact Flourescent bulbs (60 Watt equivalent) and had special sockets to receive them (two nodes in the bulb fit into the socket and you twist and lock the bulbs into place). Now when I turn the light on using the dimmer switch, the light will blink rapidly until I get it ''just right'' which is as bright as on would be on a normal switch. Further more, if I do try to dim the light, the switch will hum and click, and the bulbs will blink. The lower I set the dimmer, the slower the lights blink. Is there any way to fix this, where I can keep compact flourescents? Do I need to replace the sockets? Is it a hopeless cause and I should pack it in and swap it out with a fan control where the light has only one and off?

Compact fluorescent bulbs do not work on dimmers.  You have to use standard incandescent bulbs or not dim the lights.

SOURCE: hunter fan/light control wiring

solution depends on how many wires are in the ceiling box. was there a ceiling fan in place before? were the light and fan controlled by seperate switches or was there only one switch? if two switches, then there should be two seperate hot wires in the ceiling box. if only one switch, then only one hot wire in box. if only one, then your black and red from the fan will wire together to the single hot. green goes to the bare copper wire, if not one, then not needed

If you have a remote then you can't use the dimmer switch on the wall. Put in an on/off switch.

I just installed a 52"

yes this is because the dimer is giving the light less power.you just need to change the switch to a single switch then your dimer will work right all the time. good luck

Flickering lights

make sure you have the remotes/receivers set to different jumpers. I installed 2 fans and had the same problem, just had to change the jumpers on one of the fans and the corresponding remote

Hampton Bay Ponte Vecchio ceiling fan light flickers

Try swapping out the bulbs and see what happens. There are bulbs made specifically for ceiling fans that have heavier duty filaments in the bulbs, or you could use compact fluorescents. The warning about using a solid state control was referring to using a solid state dimmer at the wall switch.

Lights flicker when turned off by remote

I had this same problem with a Hampton Bay fan with a remote light switch. I call the manufacturer of the of the switch and was told that the model switch I had would not work correctly with CFL bulbs. The problem is with the dimmer function. You either need to change the bulbs to incandescent, or change the remote receiver in the ceiling. Hampton Bay was kind enough to send me a new receiver that works with CFL. The CFL units are white, and the incandescent is black. Hope this helps you.
