I got a different computer it is running XP, I have a #1+ viking which is like the Rose.
I tried to connect the box to the LPT port and I get a message that said no avaible LPT port, the software loaded fine on the computer but the box dosn't want to connect. It is a 25 pin port. Viking said they didn;t have any new upgrades on this box as it was old. Is there anyway to get this box connected and working? Thank you,
I have the same problem and after several trips to the store and reading all of the similar situations I could find (and there are many), I finally realized that there is no solution except to purchase an old computer with Win 98 or NT. According to the Husqvarna store, Husqvarna software and the reader writer box will not work with XP. To make matters worse, Husqvarna says the machine is outdated and they are not going to upgrade the software or the box. The store's solution....we would be happy to sell you a newer machine....!!! Same problem and Husqvarna's answer was 'Buy a newer version". If I could afford at the moment I definately would--and I can promise you it would be nothing from Husqvarna Viking. I had to go to a metric screw shop for a new screw. Dont make them long enough anymore to support the quilting footSame problem and Husqvarna's answer was 'Buy a newer version". Re:
Maybe ya haven't got it on the right "Port" sometimes on some PC's the LPT1 is also called the Printer Port. Check to see it is "Connected" in the PC.
Have you checked to see that this Port works, maybe with a printer?
Also SOME 25pin "Printer" leads do NOT have ALL wires joined thru.. so make sure your cable is the correct type... with ALL 25 wires wired through.
Also maybe set the Program to run in Compatibility Mode, say, for Win98... perhaps that will help?

I would reccomend that you go to the dealer and think about upgrading your machine, I used to have a Rose. I upgraded and am happy I did, I think you can get the 4D with some of the new machines...if not deal for it with your new machine.
Being as you have xp looks like you will have to go to viking site and download a patch to make it compatable, I have a Janome and when we upgraded the computer I had to go to the janome site and download upgrade, the same would apply to the customizing software I would think.
The dongle is only available with the software when you buy it. The dongle alone doesn't run the reader/writer box. The dongle is the code key for the software that allows you to send designs to the reader/writer. So purchasing new software (which also gets you the new dongle) is what you'll need to do if you want to send designs to the programmable card. Another issue you may have is that the older reader /writer box that uses a parallel port hook up, doesn't work with the new software. So if you have an old reader /writer, you'll also need a new usb reader / writer box. The new reader / writer also comes with a new programmable card.
Your software cannot connect through a usb port if it originally connected through a printer port. The usb option came about in later versions of husqvarna's software and there is no patch that makes it work through a usb hub. Her only option for running your old software is to have an older computer with the parallel port for the printer style cable.
You may be able to find an old computer with Windows 95 or 98. Make sure that it also has a parallel port for the older R/W boxes.
You may also find that the 4D Embroidery package will do what you wish to do and it is under $400. 4D Embroidery Extra is the $700 package.
If you only want to put existing designs onto the card with no manipulation, you can get the Reader/Writer kit, $199 MSRP that includes Organizer which will allow you to load 1 design to your card at a time.
Unfortunately, System 5 was replaced by VIP which was replaced by 3D which was replaced by 4D. I don't think that system 5 will run on anything newer than Windows 98.
I have the Ultimate Box and it works great on the Rose and my old PC. The Ultimate box is not compatible with Windows Vista though - good think I am keeping my old computer!!
If still an issue, suggest you visit an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for assistance. They are usually eager to help.
You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com Good luck.
After checking with the Dealer, I was told my old Reader/Writer Box & embroidery software is not compatible with Windows Vista. I will have to purchase a new R/W Box which has a USB cable & a different type of dongle.
You might need an update for your reader writer box. The one you have might be old and that is why it does not recognizes it. Just go to the manufacturer's site and download an update for your reader/writer box.
