I keep getting error messages arise when I try to print - there are 2 types of error messages; 1) Your ink tanks are running low... problem is they're perfectly fine, full & new... 2) You have more than one yellow ink tank installed... problem is I'm well aware of the specifications, and I only have one yellow ink tank installed... I'm thinking it's a hardware problem??
I am having the same problem (except with the Magenta tank) and I am beginning to think it is a hardware problem. I have tried all of the following: reset the printer cleared the memory reinstalled the tank reinstalled a tank I knew worked jebss32 perhaps we should start trying to deal directly with Canon.

After turning your printer on hold the button with the triangle sign for more then 5 sec. . this will erase the memory of the inktcartidge then try to print again. Does it work? Hans v. N. from Holland

Have you changed anything on your pc such as installed updates windows or interent settings, this can often adversely affect printer fuction as many printers cannot handle certain settings and operating environments. I would first clear all printing jobs (click on printer and select cancel print queue or similar message. Now turn printer off, disconnect all cords and usb cables. re plug and turn on and try again. You can also check printer driver function, go to start, control panel, perf and main, hardware, scroll down to your printer, see if any yellow exclamation marks. This could mean a driver problem. It may be incompatable if you have changed anything or it may be malfunctioning due to spyware or other. I also suggest running full anti spyware and virus checks. I all this fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer.

Sometimes the printer can be set to print offline or pause, which can result in error messages, if it is actually trying to print. Go to printer properties, scroll down and uncheck any of above. Now restart pc, and try again. post again if not fixed.
What are the exact things you did from solution one to get it running so we can narrow down the issues ie did you uninstall anss reinstall? post back please, i wuld love to get it running so you can live without printer stress, and still have hair left
Ok, do not panic. But just as a precaution, how long is your warranty, some printers have 1, 2, 3, and 5 year warranties. Also as a precaution i hope you have your receipt. Printer was probably installed correctly, but sometimes they can already be faulty before you get them!!! I bought a brand new lexmark got it home, installed it and it printed fine a few times then notning! It had a faulty paper sensor and the store was obligated to give me a whole new printer, i just kept all the open software, and books, and they did a total printer replacement.
Ok bzoe. Now we get tough on it. The problem may be corrupt drivers altogether. First, uninstall it completely, when ot is turned off and unconnected. Get your original disk, and make a back up copy of it. Reinstall the printer now with this new disk. Try to print now. Post back if no good.

Usually answered in minutes!
I also forgot to add, that when these error messages appear, my printer refuses to print anything at all, even after I click the OK message.
Okay, so my printer worked fine after I did everything in the first solution, but now (the 2nd time I've used it since I last had problems) it's playing up, displaying the same error messages again. The printer settings are fine also... which has me pretty annoyed - as you can imagine!
Thanks for trying though, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. If you have anymore thoughts please let me know!
okay!! To start with, I had not changed any settings or installed any updates that could potentially have changed the printers operation ability, previous to these instances happening. The printer seemingly started spitting the dummy for no reason. The first couple of times it happened, I would turn off the printer and computer, then restart it - and generally speaking, the printer would print fine.
The situation has got worse however, and the printer will display these error messages every time I go to print - eg. The ink tanks are running low (but they are actually full - and I have checked them...) or a message reading You have more than one yellow ink tank installed - (with which I haven't!).
The first solution suggested unplugging the printer and doing a computer virus check. I did both, no viruses were found - my computer is up to date with virus protection etc... anyways when i did the first print job after this it worked fine. The problem has since been reoccurring after this however. I also checked for conflicting drivers (solution 2), but this did not appear as a problem, as my old printer driver has been fully removed, and only one driver is installed for this printer; the person I purchased my printer from (which is also the person I purchased my computer from) installed my new printer for me, and all that jazz.
I have unplugged and replugged the printer and computer several times today, leaving a time of at least 3 - 4 hours between to clear the printers back up memory - read it on another solution for another printer on fixya.com - however the problem has only got worse; to the point that it reoccurrs now every time I turn the printer on. Pretty much, it won't enable me to print anything at the moment, becuase even after clicking the OK button to say ok - to the alert 'You have more than one yellow ink tank installed' - the print job automatically cancels, without an option for printing anyway.
The printer is just over 12 months old... I'm fearing the worst...
yeah unfortunately i think my 12 month warranty ran out in the last 2 - 3 months, so i'm not really happy about it either... goodluck dealing with canon though... let me know how you go!
I don't know if this will help at all, but since you don't use those printers very often, it might be a good idea to one by one remove each ink cartridge and clean off the metal contact strip things with ammonia. Dampen a section of the cloth with ammonia. Wipe off each each cartridge. Be sure to use a clean part of the cloth for each ink-producing smear. Do not soak the whole cloth in ammonia, just dampen a spot. Hope it helps. I had a printer repair guy tell me that when he did the same thing to an inkjet had.
