Question about Canon PowerShot A95 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Corrupted Pictures? There are times when I'll take a "long" photo (1200X1600 dimensions). The camera will take the picture. I will be able to view it on the camera. I'll download the picture to my computer (Windows XP). The download will work fine. I'll go to the folder where the picture is and I can see the thumbnail of the picture. However, when I double click the thumbnail to view the full image the picture won't open. I've noticed this only happening on "long" photos. I've often times still had the picture on the memory card of the camera and simply re-downloaded the picture to my computer and it works fine. I can view the full image. Any suggestions on how I can ensure these do not get corrupted? I'm scared to delete any of the "long" pictures from my camera because they often get corrupted. Thanks in advance for your help!

I suggest you always format the card in your camera every time you release it and use in your pc. card may get infected with virus and may affect the performance. never format card in pc! Better save pictures in hdd or cd than in mem cards.

Why does "this picture cannot be played" appear when I try to view my photos?

Most of the time this message is displayed, when the file is corrupted, or when no file at all is on the memory card.

If it is infected, try the corrupted card procedures in the following link. Also take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones:

Your pictures may be corrupted. You can recover those corrupted pictures with this
1. Do not save any new pictures into the memory card of your camera.
2. Insert the memory card into a card reader. Connect it with computer. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer.
3. Download recovery software, recommended one is Tenorshare Data Recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)

4. Install and open the program, select your memory drive, and click 'Start' button to start scanning process which will find your deleted photos.

I have my S610 set to take photos @ 5MB. But when I download them to Picassa, they are ~1.2 MB. Is this a camera setting or Picassa?

Neither. The camera is taking pictures at 5 megapixels resolution. The file size of the image is only loosely related to the resolution. You'll note that your pictures are all different sizes. The size is dependent on the content of the picture. If you take a picture of a blank wall or a plain blue sky, the file size will be smaller than the file size of a picture of a cluttered scene, because it takes more bytes to record detail.

If you look at your pictures in your image viewer, you'll see that the pictures are all the same dimension (width and height), regardless of the file size.

This usually due to the memory stick on the digital camera getting corrupted etc. You will have to re-format the memory stick, but will lose the photos on it. You can try backing up the photos from the memory stick to the PC and see if you are able to view them correctly. The best would be to get a new memory stick if this continues to happen. Let me know, how you come along.

When you remove the card from the computer, do you use the "safely remove hardware" function? If you don't, the card can become corrupted enough that your camera no longer recognizes it.

Lost pictures

As you lost your pictures from memory card, you need for a data recovery software to recover them. There are a lot of recovery software's at the market and some of them are even for free. Look for it in the internet, under "memory card recovering pictures" Good luck
