Question about Olympus FE-230 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Not focusing I'm not sure what happened, nothing seems to be obstructing and to my extent of knowledge nothing has happened to my camera. However when I turn it on the lens comes out once, goes back in, and comes out again. Then the screen is blank, shows no picture until i push the play button, or until I change what picture setting it is on. Once the screen shows picture it will not focus anything. Any help here?

Same problem as the other post. Turn it on and the lens wants to go out, come back, go out, come back. I've had it about 90 days, I guess nothing lasts forever :) Bottom line: can't use it. It tries to focus but never quite makes it. The sound it makes while attempting to focus does sound a bit grindy. I smashed my low mileage Panasonic because of a similar focus problem. Olympus at least uses metal internal parts (or so I'm told). The camera hasn't been dropped or anything, just a lemon I guess. Time to go back to a Sony?

My camera does the same exact thing! I have had it for a little over two months now and one day it just stopped working. The lens goes out comes back in, goes back out until it shuts itself off. The only way can get it to not shut off is when I press the play button real quick. I have never dropped the camera or anything it stays in my house. I really did not want to purchase a new camera but from the looks of it I guess I am going to have to.

Do you hear any unusual friction noise while the lens assembly projects out.. if so then the traction assembly of your zoom barrel has developed mechanical obstruction, in which case it has to be serviced. Take it to the service centre and the problem will be solved. If the zoom assembly does not fully extent to its homing position, the camera retracts and lens and powers itself off. Enjoy

Has the following on screen and will not go away ,turn off the camera and turn on again and it does nothing

You have a problem with your lens, maybe a decentered lens. Make sure there are no obstructions in the way of the lens. It may need to be serviced.

Display said please turn camera off and then on again

This only happens when the camera has a serious problem. Next to turning off the camera, you also could remove the battery and charge it, before placing it back. Also check all contacts of the battery and memory card. Don't forget to close the battery door correct, after you charged an replaced the battery.
Make sure, nothing can obstruct the movement of the lens when the camera is switched on.

How do I re-set a 10.1megopixel c1033

Chances are something is blocking the lens. It could be a lens cap, or your finger, or even a grain of dust or sand.

Here's the best first course of action:
1. Turn off the camera
2. Blow sharply into the areas around the lens/lens cap.
3. Turn it on again and see if that resolves the problem. Be sure nothing is physically obstructing the lens. (No lens cap, no finger, etc.)
4. If blowing doesn't work, try using a can of compressed air like you would buy at an office supply store, and blow out the area around the lens and lens housing. Chances are, if nothing was obstructing the lens that you could see, it might be a bit of dust or sand. Even a little sand can totally screw up the lens and keep it from moving in or out.
5. If this doesn't work, you should take your camera to a camera shop and have it professionally inspected and cleaned. Check out how much this will cost, though, before you do -- it might not make sense to pay what they want to charge, versus just buying a new camera.

I turned the camera on. The screen came on then quit like the batteries were dead. I replaced the batteries, then bought new ones. I cannot get the camera to come on when I move the "on"...

ths issue happens every so often on these cameras. for some reason it seems the camera has issues interacting with the lens motor and turns off. you need to make sure the len shoot is clean of obstruction and try to give it a wiggle or turn. leave the batteries out of the unit for about 5 minuts and for 10 seconds before hold the power button over. then place the batteries in the unit. this is something that i have happen to my unit atleast 2 or 3 times a year.

I have a scandisk sdhc 8gb memory card for my digital camera and I had tried to erase all photos from it so afterwards it says 'MEMORY FULL' but there is nothing on the card to my knowledge I even stuck it...

Sometimes this happens. Sometimes the speed rating on the memory card doesn't match your camera. Most people think all SD cards are the same. I assume you have the right card, but if you're unsure, then be sure to check to be sure. Another problem is that if someone tries to format the card in something other than your camera, it messes up the format on the card and it becomes incompatible with your camera. Sometimes you get a bad card that the retailer recycled because it was a return or maybe someone sold it to you on eBay. These problems happen. You will have to get a new card and make sure everything else it alright with your camera and card reader.

Same thing....

Dirty camera, needs to be serviced, common sony problem. dirt got into the camera through lens, to many working parts for someone to take apart without knowledge of cameras. Cheaper to buy new camera. So you have nothing to loose if you take apart and try to clean. The worst thing that could happen is you will have to buy a new one.

Power/lens Problems

it seems that the lense movement is jammed. Have you dropped the camera? just have a close look from the front side of the camera, does the lense assembly seems to be pressed or moved aside by some extra preassure? if no physical disalingment is visible may be some sand or dust partical is obstructing the movement of the lense assambly. needs a help from camera repair shop.
