Some of my drivers are out of date and I want to get free driver scanner software so I can scan my notebook at home.

If you are unsure of your version, download and install v3.09, if your drivers are out of date, the install will update your drivers. Test the scanner using the Scan Validation Tool (SVT). This program should be located in the Kodak folder in your start menu. SVT will test the scanner's functionality at a basic level alleviating all third party software variables. Please consult your owner's manual if you are unsure how to initiate a scan in SVT. It seems to be drivers issue. This problem also occur due to corrupt registry. Fix the registry errors and update the drivers that control your PC. The best solution is to use a driver scanner tool to fix this problem instantly.

I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.

I guess I have a couple of questions for you first. Does your computer recognize the scanner is attached to your computer? If so can you scan in any other program like Windows Paint? If you say yes to both of these then the problem is with configuring your adobe software. If you say no then we need to go back to basics. I would google Canon Canoscan 8400F Drivers, it should pull up a page that will take you to Canons official website. Download the latest drivers from Canon's official website,the drivers are dated and the ones towards the top should be the latest drivers. The drivers are free. Also while your there download the newest version of Capture Perfect its a utility program for scanning its free also but download the latest one. Now make sure your scanner is unplugged from your computer, the cable that goes from the scanner to the computer. Install the latest drivers on to your computer. Once they are installed, then with your scanner powered on attach the cable from the scanner to your computer. A window should pop up saying a new device (or drivers) is being installed. Once this completes reboot your scanner and you should be able to scan again.

I use Paint shop and in order for me to scan with my Canon scanner I need to go to aquire and image, from a scanner or camera, and then it controls the scanner and does the scanning for me.

usually the drivers come with the CDs if its not there try re-installing if it didn't work download a free driver scanner and look if you have any out of date drivers :) .
