H10 wants to lock up

I bought my H10 in January 2009. It was working fine until I tried to download my recorded information onto my computor. It locked up and I have not been able to do anything with it since except to listen to FM stations. If I try anything else, it locks up and an hour class appears on the screen. Please help.

Sounds like a hard drive problem...
need to see if you can still access your hard drive through the UMS trick
For 20 GB MTP Models

  • Make sure your H10 is turned off and disconnected from the computer.
  • Poke the "reset" button with a paperclip.
  • Turn on the hold switch (so that you don't accidentally turn the H10 on all the way).
  • Plug the H10 into your computer.
  • Turn on the H10 while holding the "O" button.
  • You will see the message "Emergency Connection" if you have done everything correctly. You can now let go of the "O" button.
If yes, try formatting the H10 hard drive, reload the latest iriver h10 firmware, and transfer your music files directly to the h10 music folder with Windows file manager.
Download and run Easyh10 free playlist maker, to build and save a playlist to your player.

I can not delete unreadable/corrupt music(MP3) files

When your iriver H10 has corrupt files you may want to solve the issue by formatting the player's hard drive.
This is how I did it with my H10 5GB (so called 'MTP device' thats recognized by Windows as a portable device i.e. "Windows Portable devices".
To do so follow 2 steps: step 1: Format the hard drive of your H10. step 2: Re-install the player's firmware.
step 1: Format the hard drive of your H10: --------- 1. Make sure your H10 is turned off and disconnected from the computer. 2. Take out the battery, wait a second, and put the battery back in. 3. Turn on the hold switch (so that you don't accidentally turn the H10 on all the way). 4. Plug the H10 into your computer. 5. Turn on the H10 while holding the "O" button. On your H10 screen You will see the message "UMS Mode" if you have done everything correctly. You can now let go of the "O" button. 6. On your computer, start Windows Explorer, navigate to the drive, right click and select 'Format'.

step 2: Re-install the player's firmware. --------- 1. Download and install iriver Firmware Updater v2.4.0.0. I found a downloadable copy on this website: http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/237145/iriver-firmware-updater-v2.4.0.0-for-mtp-devices-windows-free-download.html 2. Start the newly installed software and follow the Wizard. I clicked the 'USA' button when asked where I bought the device. This should install the MTP firmware. 3. Wait for the software to complete and disconnect your device from the computer. 4. Wait for your device to install the new Firmware.

Restore the system files, connect H10 to recovery tool

The procedure depends on what version you have.

Below there is the procedure for 20 GB , on other models procedure is the same, but you must find the right download for your model.

For 20 GB :

TO RESTORE "SYSTEM FILES MISSING" LOCKED PLAYER

--- This applies ONLY to the 20 gig version of the H10! ---

--- This procedure formats your H10 so all data will be erased on the player! ---

1. Power off H10 - 20gig unit.

2. Insert staple or other small object into reset hole to press reset button.

3. Connect player to USB cable.

3. Hold down Select key (labeled "O" - right button on front of player) while also holding down power key until player boots.

4. Unit must display "Emergency Connection."

5. Unit will now appear as a drive under My Computer. Right click on drive, select Format. No need to change anything, just proceed.

6. Download H10_20GB_System.exe. It is a self-extracting archive. Double click on it and unzip to c:\iriver.

http://www.iriveramerica.com/downloa...0GB_System.exe

7. Locate iriver directory, double click. You will see H10. Double click once again; you will see System.
