Sorry to hear about your trouble. Since I am not sure of the details, let me offer a long review and suggestion. It may work for you, especially if the AiO software is not installing correctly.

If the KODAK AiO Home Center software fails to start or an error message appears, there may be a problem with the Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 installation. To resolve this condition:

1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add / Remove Programs (for Windows XP) or Programs and Features (for Windows Vista).
3. Select Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

IMPORTANT: If other versions of Microsoft .NET Framework are listed, do not perform this operation on those other versions. Follow this procedure ONLY for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

4. Click Change / Remove (for Windows XP) or Uninstall (for Windows Vista).

5. Select Repair, and click Next.
NOTE: A progress bar shows the repair progress.

6. After the repair is complete, make sure the Restart the computer check box is selected, and click Finish.

7. After the computer restarts, start the KODAK AiO Home Center software.

IMPORTANT: If the KODAK AiO Home Center software fails to start or continues to display an error message, completely uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and do a clean reinstall KODAK AiO Home Center software. The Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 will also be reinstalled with the KODAK AiO Home Center software.

1. Follow steps 1 - 4 above.

2. Select Uninstall, and click Next.
IMPORTANT: Uninstall ONLY Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. If other versions of Microsoft .NET Framework are listed, do not uninstall them.

3. Restart the computer.

4. Perform a clean re-installation of the KODAK AiO Home Center software:

a. Disconnect all USB devices from the computer, including the Kodak EasyShare all-in-one printer.
NOTE: Do not disconnect your mouse or keyboard.
b. Uninstall the Kodak EasyShare 5000 series all-in-one software:

1. In the Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Program and Features (Windows Vista).
2. Select one of the following software programs from the list of currently installed programs, depending on which one appears in your list:

Kodak EasyShare software
Kodak all-in-one printer software
Kodak EasyShare 5000 series all-in-one software

3. Click Change or Remove (Windows XP) or Uninstall (Windows Vista).
4. When the Install Wizard appears, click Next.
5. Depending on the issue(s) you are experiencing, do the following:

- If you are experiencing errors with the Kodak EasyShare software, such as a Tricode, in addition to errors with the KODAK AiO Home Center software, select Remove, click Next, and follow the on-screen instructions for removing the software.
- If you are not experiencing errors with Kodak EasyShare software, select Modify to uninstall only KODAK AiO Home Center software, and click Next.

6 In the Custom Setup window, select Remove from the drop-down menu for the Kodak All-in-One Printer, and click Next.
vii. In the Ready to remove the program window, click Next.
viii. In the Uninstall Complete window, click Continue.
ix. Restart the computer.

c. Delete the files and folders that can interfere with the installation.

For Windows XP, delete:
i. Printer folder in C:\Program Files\Kodak
ii. Both the Eastman Kodak Company and KDS_Kodak folders in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
iii. Kodak 5000 Series AiO folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kodak
iv. Printer folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kodak\EasyShareSetup

For Windows Vista, delete:

ii. Eastman Kodak Company folder in C:\ProgramData
iii. Eastman Kodak Company folder(s) in C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local

d. Run Disk Cleanup.

i. Open My Computer.
ii. Right-click Local Disk (C:) and select Properties.
iii. Click the Disk Cleanup button.
iv. When the Disk Cleanup for (C:) window appears, select the Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin, and Temporary Files check boxes.
v. Click OK , then click Yes to delete all files and begin the Disk Cleanup.
vi. When the Disk Cleanup is finished, click OK in the Local Disk (C:) Properties window.

i. Select Start > Run.
ii. Type msconfig in the Open field, and click OK.
iii. Select the Startup tab.

IMPORTANT: If not all the applications in the Startup Items list are selected, write down which applications are selected so you know which ones to turn on again later.

v. When prompted, restart the computer.

f. After the computer restarts, insert the KODAK EASYSHARE 5000 Series All-in-One Software CD into the computer CD drive to begin the installation.

g. During the installation process, when prompted, select to search for an updated version of the software on the Kodak Web site and install the updated version.

h. Before restarting the computer again, turn on the background applications.

i. Select Start > Run.
ii. Type msconfig in the Open field and click OK.
iii. Select the Startup tab.
iv. Under Startup Items:

- If only some items were originally selected, select the check box in front of the items that you noted in Step e-iii.

You might have to reformat your hard drive as there is something in your OS that is hindering the printing.

SOURCE: Printer Kodak Easyshare 5300 Will not print black ink

Here are the things you will be asked to try if you call support. They may fix the problems as well. Taking the printhead out and putting it back in is the big helper.

Remove the black and color ink cartridges.
Right above where the black ink cartridge was, in the top left hand corner of the printhead, push up towards the ceiling and you should be able to push a button that releases the printhead.
Place the printhead right back into the printer and push straight back on the back wall.
You should hear a loud snap.
Replace the ink cartridges which should snap as well.
Close the printer.
After about a minute or so the printer will ask you to do a calibration.
Insert a paper and press start.
Scan the calibration sheet.
After that, in the menu, do a printhead clean.
(If this is a 5100, do it in the home center ->? in the top right ->Maintainence ->Clean Printhead.)
Do one basic and one deep.
Print a demo sheet to see if anything has changed.
If the picture looks better, continue to do cleans.
In the event that it does not, the printhead will need to be replaced and since the printer is still under warranty, Kodak specialists will try to overnight you a printhead.
The whole process is short and free.
The number for Kodak AiO Support is 1 800 421 6699.

SOURCE: How do you remove the printhead of a Kodak EasyShare 5300 printer?

Clarification: Remove tanks(cartridges)first. You see the bullseye target with a finger pointing to it.
Above the bullseye sticker, there's a rectangular button. Press it in until printhead dislodges.

Printer to computer set up

Go to Kodak's web site (here) and download the driver for your Operating System.

...and while you're on it: download the firmware as well (if you need to update it) and save a copy of the manual on your computer. That might come handy anytime...;-)
