I have a GE TFX24SMA. The 5/16 inch replacement water line part number is WR17X10206 or PS291410 available from PartSelect.com for $74.25.

There is such an adapter. I use them all the time. They come in water valve replacement kits that are available for Maytag and Amana units. They're not always used so there are lots of spares lying around. Check with your local appliance parts dealer. When replacing the line keep it away from the heat!

I cut the 5/16 plastic line off as short as possible.
Then using a 3/8 dia countersink with a 3/16 pilot I drilled out the tube down to the black rubber ferrell.
Then I tapped out the white plastic 1/2" tubes and installed threaded brass fittings. A small hose clamp was added ..

The GE TPX24BRBAWW side-by-side refrigerator in our home as well as the family across the street have the same, terrible, destructive problem; Try to dispense cold water from the freezer door and water is dispensed onto the floor at the back right of the unit. The 5/16" line has failed near to the solenoid valve in each case. The water spreads across the floor and is absorbed into the base molding and wall causing substantial water damage. The failure appears to be due to either the materials or the design that routes the line immediately adjacent to the hot compressor unit.
GE shipped us the wrong part to fix the problem. All they need to do is offer a section of 5/16" line and union connector but THEY DON'T. And I can't seem to find the parts due to the wierd size. 1/4" and 3/8" is at every Home Depot but 5/16"??? So it would seem GE stranded a huge number of owners with no part to remedy their product's flaw. Maybe I can find a 5/16" to 3/8" adapter and then just use some readily available 3/8" line to fix the problem for a while.
I have had the same issue.
have ge monogram side by side I can hear the water going to ice maker but it doesn't get there. water goes to the ice water dispenser fine, just doesn't get to the icemaker. If I put water into the ice maker it makes ice cubes normally.
My GE side-by-side model ESL25X had the same problem where the water was gushing from the bottom back right-side of the refrigerator after attempting to get water from the dispenser. I found that the water line was completely broken and it appears as though it's because the tubing just got old and brittle and it broke right by the water valve where it makes a loop to go up to the water dispenser. There is a 3" section that connects to the water valve and I can see a couple of feet of extra tubing inside the unit but I can't figure out how to remove the short piece so I can simply cut off some of the old tubing and piece it back into the water valve. It seems like a pretty straight forward repair but I can't seem to get the pieces to the water valve apart.
I have the same problem. The polystyrene water lines are broken off inside the refrigerator (right, rear). It would appear that this would be an easy fix, but do not know how to remove the tubes from the assembly. A service repair manual would be very handy. Are these available anywhere?
