As long as you can plug it into the laptop, it should recognize the keyboard straight away. With a laptop in mind make sure you get the usb version of the keyboard (that is if your laptop is modern enough to have usb ports).

Keyboard automatically locks when i press l i had to copy paste the letter l from history. im not pressing windows, i disabled windows button. ive checked safe mode stil. if i press l my keyboard is...

It seems that the keyboard is not communicating correctly with Windows 7 or your operating system, maybe even with your Dell PC, remember that Dells, Compaq's and other major PC companies program their systems so that consumers will only purchase their factory products. First make sure that you have installed the correct drivers for that keyboard, also try swapping with a friends keyboard and see if the problem continues if it stops with a keyboard swap then the Microsoft keyboard is not compatible which seems rare but possible. Good luck.

Got the BSOD after I plugged in the Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard without using the CD....which I do not have. Can someone help?

moonlite_777

If you are getting a Blue Screen of Death after plugging in your keyboard it could be a problem with the USB port or a driver problem. Note most USB keyboards will work with the basic options with the Windows native driver. The link below will show the info I need off the BSOD to better see what is going on.
